Hey, I recently started using my hacked 3DS again (New 3DS) and noticed it would randomly crash when put to sleep mode. Searched a bit and most ppl with the "same" issue solved it by updating GM9 and Luma to its most recent versions, so i did. Now my console crashes everytime im on the home screen for more than a few seconds. If i rush into a game I can play it without the console crashing as long as i dont put the 3DS in sleep mode. As soon as i return to the home screen, it crashes. Cant find threads with same issue. Cant attach DMP file but if necessary i can figure it out another way. Thanks in advance.

no real formatting, but do format to remove the content and have it fresh. do it after you backup your stuff, obviously. ;)

Running the verification process rn, updating when complete. Thanks again.

That was very good and practical troubleshooting advice from Godreborn. I have a few 3DS and other consoles. One of the best advice shared by any reputable mod tutorial author is...

- Make backup(s)
- This includes the original firmware, nand, etc.
- Mods using memory cards or other data / file structure, make a backup of the card and or file structure. It doesn't have to be on another memory card - just copy onto a computer. When or if your memory card goes bad, you can quickly recover from your backup.

** Name / label your backups properly, especially if you have multiple same devices, as most backups ore device specific.

"Test finished without errors"

Assuming you made a backup of your SD on a PC... even so.. make a second one just to be safe.. You could then try..
1. Make a backup or snapshot of the current firmware / system software / nand state.
2. Uninstall any homebrew that you dont really need
3. Remove any frills like Themes.
4. Follow a reputable tutorial guide to start a clean SD card (hint - search 3DS guide).

If you have alot of gaming content, then try to avoid any system resets or formatting for now.. You should be able to get your games back by copying the "Nintendo 3DS" folder from your backup to the SD card.

Thanks for taking your time to write this, although these steps are quite ambitious and feel kinda "last resort". The crash message is a "data abort" one, and i've seen many others with it, its just that mine appears in places not like the others.

Have you done the test with the "read & write" setting? And was formatted before & after the test as fat 32kb cluster size?
Anyway, copy back only the Luma3DS & GodMode9 files, download the latest files if you can, and insert it back to your system and see if it gives you an Arm11 error again in the home screen.

No worries. Although what one considers last resort is to each individual. Freshly redoing a 3DS memory card with default settings of current homebrew iis straight forward and non invasive if you're familiar with it. Redoing a 3DS memory card is not the same as a factory reset.

I consider last resort steps involve full factory resets and or even system software downgrades or rebuilds. Copying over new versions of software doesn't necessary change existing settings that could be causing the issue. Much of those settings are stored on files within the SD card. Cheers.

The test was done with the read and write setting, but I just today noticed that the cluster size was set to 4092 bytes. I re-formatted the card with 32kb and now moving over the files from my backup. Not sure if this could be causing the issue.

Very true, I'm just not very familiar with the architecture of how the 3ds stores data so backing up everything i find necessary and then wiping the whole card would take me some time, considering i can only just save the specific files due to the possibility of the issue lying somewhere between those files. I get your point though, and I might have to do what you said. Ordered a bigger sd-card so I think I'll start a clean cfw from that one.
