quote an old answer
Since k.102 fw3, EZ-FLASH OMEGA Definitive Edition has completely fixed the problem of random freeze.

If a random freeze occurs even though the latest firmware and kernel are confirmed to be in use.

According to the known cases we have received in China, there are probably the following cases.

1. The rom has incorrect hash values, not a clean rom.
2. The console modded, the assembly craft leads to contact problems with the consoles when playing the game(Hands with pressure).
3. The console modded backlit screen which cause insufficient power supply.
4. Uses addon function like cheat enabled too many values or uses savestate too frequently.

A method of test the card random freeze or not can be given here by downloading Nintendo's aging rom at the following address
https://tcrf.net/AGS_Aging_Cartridge

If your console have a power plug, please plug it. otherwise uses a pair of full batteries.
Run the aging rom directly, without addon.
Just let the console stay there and run the aging rom
There is the timer on the lower right of screen
If the card and console not freeze more than 1-2 hours.
It means the card has not random freeze issue.
Please follow the four clues above to troubleshoot.

Is the random freezes only fixed for the EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition, or should the latest update also fix freezes on the standard EZ Flash Omega?

For the original EZ-FLASH OMEGA, the k108 and fw8 already fixed the random freeze issue which same as the Definitive Edition.

So what does this mean if it crashes after 41 seconds with this test?

edit: ran a second test and that resulted in a crash after 4 seconds

Has the console been modified,Whether it is connected to an external power supply or sufficient batteries?

I'm also suffering from random freezes. I've tried it in a variety of games, but it freezes after a few minutes. I tried it on another body, but the result is the same. We hope that it will be improved in future support and updates.

It froze in 3 hours and 15 minutes on another console.

What is the model of this console? Is it modded? What kind of battery does it use? Is there an external power supply?

I think it is too inefficient to ask repeated questions over and over again.

Let me tell you what you may encounter now.

If the console uses a built-in lithium battery (GBASP), and it has not been replaced with a new one, it is a miracle that it can run for more than 1-2 hours on a battery that has lasted almost 20 years.

If the console has been modified ips screen, it should also pay attention to another problem, because the current GBA motherboard life has been up to 20 years, in which the capacitors have been aging, especially the 6.3v470uf capacitor, this capacitor aging easily lead to voltage instability, coupled with the ips also in the crazy power absorption, it is easy to cause the flash card power supply is insufficient, resulting in a freeze.

The last one is the modification craft leads to poor contact, when held in the hand to play may cause freeze, but can running aging rom several hours without problems when resting on the desk.

below is a modded GBA running with a pair of eneloop pro black batteries.
the GBA SP is running with a new cheap battery.

Since there is a button LED, the power supply may not be catching up. You may also need to replace the console capacitors. I will try another method. Thank you for letting me know in detail.

My ODE was crashing as well until I switched my batteries out for some proper Eneloop 2450mAh AA 1.2V's. Since then: no issues at all.

Hello!

I had bought two EZ Flash Definitive editions. I also have modified two GBAs with the following same mods;

GBA-1
- IPS screen
- 1200mAH rechargeable battery
- EZ Flash Definitive Edition (EZFD#1)
- Samsung EVO 64GB Micro SD

GBA-2
- IPS screen
- 1200mAH rechargeable battery
- EZ Flash Definitive Edition (EZFD#2)
- Samsung EVO 64GB Micro SD

GBA-1 and GBA-2 had no issues when I first ran them with their own respective EZFD (EZ Flash Definitive Edition). I then decided to upgrade EZFD#2 to the latest firmware and kernel (FW:4 K:1.03). After this upgrade GBA-2 with EZFD#2 crashed within an hour of playing. I tried with fully charged battery and with fully charged battery and having it plugged in while playing; still crashed.

I then swapped EZFD carts between GBA-1 and GBA-2. The freezing problem followed the cart. Now the freezing is happening with GBA-1 instead of GBA-2; GBA-2 plays for hours without freezing.

It seemed that EZFD#2 is the problem.

I then swapped only the Micro SD card between EZFD#1 and EZFD#2. Upon testing the problem stayed with EZFD#2 in GBA-1. Just to confirm I then swapped the carts one more time between GBA-1 and GBA-2 and the problem again followed EZFD#2.

After my thorough troubleshooting the following was determined;
(Testing was always done with "Megaman Battle Network 3: White")
- Freezing always happens within an hour.
- Swapping MicroSD and GBA did not matter. The freezing always followed EZFD#2 cart.
- Issue only started happening after upgrading to FW:4 K:1.03
- If I were to upgrade the non-freezing EZFD#1 cart I believe the freezing issue will start.

Possible Fixes:
- Is there any way to downgrade Firmware and/or Kernel?
- Release multiple "Test" firmware update that has some changes reverted to allow us to try and see if the old settings fix the freezing issue.

Please let me know if there is any additional information you need from me.

Thank you!

Thanks for the so detailed report. This saves everyone's time compared to some people who just briefly say the card is crashing.

We can responsibly say that upgrading to k1.03/fw4 will not cause freeze.

Currently I'm not sure if you are running megaman with addon functions like softreset, cheat, savestate enabled. These features will also cause the game FREEZE.

So we suggest you do the following test.

0. Upgrade all cards to the latest firmware and kernel. If you have already upgraded to the latest, try upgrading again to make sure the upgrade is correct.
1. Use fully charged battery for each test, This is very important. Used batteries will give completely different results. and 1200mah battery may be too weak, try to replace the 2450 black eneloop pro. look at the #17
2. Use the Nintendo Aging rom, https://tcrf.net/AGS_Aging_Cartridge
3. If your screen module supports brightness adjustment, please reduce its brightness.
4. Leave the console on the table and let it run the test by itself.

if the aging rom run over 2 hours without freeze. This means that there is no problem with the card itself.

Was not modified, and was running on a power supply...now testing it with another EZ Flash Omega cartridge to verify it was not the GBA, will report later
