Bethesda reveals Skyrim Anniversary Edition price and upgrade for last-gen owners

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been a landmark title, ever since it was released in 2011. In the ten years since its launch, the game has been ported to a multitude of platforms, and has been on every Xbox and PlayStation home console since the PS3 and 360. We're about to see yet another release of Skyrim, with the impending Skyrim Anniversary Edition, coming out early next week. The initial reveal of the game didn't offer any details on how much it'd cost to buy this version of Skyrim, let alone for players who have already purchased the game multiple times in the past. Now, Bethesda has informed players what to expect.

Skyrim Anniversary Edition will be priced at $49.99 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. However, if you own Skyrim Special Edition, you'll be able to upgrade to the new release for $19.99. Those that want to play the game on either Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 will be able to simply buy the PS4 or XB1 release, and will reportedly get better graphics and loading times on the current generation systems. Achievements will carry over from either Xbox version, however the same can't be said for trophies between the PlayStation 4 and 5 versions. New to this release of Skyrim will be Creation Club content, including a survival mode.

Skyrim Anniversary Edition will fittingly be out on Skyrim's 10th anniversary: November 11th.

Waiting patiently for Elder Scrolls 6 to come to PlayStation... in like never.

Microsoft will make All Bethesda games exclusive to Xbox and to PC via Gamepass...$ucks but when they spend 7 billion they get to do whatever they want with those IPs.

If it doesn’t even come with the VR version- I’m not upgrading. I’ve already bought special edition and the VR one… after some mods, can you guess which one I do more?

They'll just recoup the money just re-releasing Skyrim all over again

Wait, these are PS4 and Xbone versions? I understand they perform better on PS5 and Series X, but how much do you want to bet that we'll still see another version yet in the coming years optimized just for the PS5 and Series X? (Ya know, truly embracing the GTA V model) Good lord, this game.

Wait, am I reading this wrong? If you own SSE and play it through the series or ps5 you'll have "updated visuals" but it's still special edition. To get SAE you'll have to pay the 20 bucks at the end of the day? Is that right?
