I have a copy of DDRHP3 for Wii and wanted to play it on my Wii U but... it requires the Gamecube controller ports for the dance pad. is there a patcher for Wii Games that use the Gamecube Adapter for Gamecube Controller compatible/required games? I've had this problem for about... 3 years! if anyone knows of a patcher or is working on one, I'd LOVE to try it. thanks!

im pretty sure an official gamecube adapter will work. but it has to be the official one, not those Nykon ones.
no it doesnt, the wiiu gc adapter only turns gc controllers into hid usb controllers, they arent detected as gc controllers by vwii or anything, that is the reason the adapter only works in ssb on the wiiu itself even...

there is no way to play any wii game with gc controller ports, since the code does not exist, so any wii game that used gc controller prots for something will not work now, wiiu gc adapter or any adapter doesnt make the usb turn into native gc controller code since the games dont check the usb ports for gc controllers, therefore they dont work at all.

It should theoretically be possible to add support for it – hence the question if there is a patcher.
I would rather think of individual patches for each game – though Nintendont hypervisor for GameCube games generally does support the USB→GC adapter (as well as other HID controllers).

Not entirely true, someone went through the trouble of modding Brawl and Project M on the Wii U to be playable with GameCube controllers through the controller adapter.

As I recall, when the person that made the mod was asked to do it for other games, they said they could, but it'd be a hassle, since each game would have to be edited individually and there couldn't be some simple patch that they could just easily apply to any Wii game that allowed for GameCube controllers to play.

again like i said the wiiu gc adapter makes gc controllers into hid controllers... if you mod a game to support hid it will be very easy to add wiiugc adapter support.

the issue with wii games is each game has its own controller code which means there is no universal way to patch all games ovbiosuly wiiugc adapter works on nintendont because nintendont supports hid, if modders make games support hid them it will work, but no one will make a game per game hack on wii ever lol

nintendont is an homebrew app that has hid support and gc unlike the wii onely has a single controller code so nintendont just patches that and replaces, wii games dont work the same there is no single code to be patched, each dev made their own controller code so there will never be a patcher for games since each games its its own thing.

Right, that's pretty much exactly what I was saying. The point is, it is possible to play Wii games on the Wii U with GameCube controllers via the GameCube adapter, if someone that knows what they're doing, edits the code on a game by game basis. it's not impossible to achieve, just a huge barrier that is not quick or easy to get around. Still, I have Brawl and Project M on my Wii U able to be played with GameCube controllers via the adapter, and that's pretty cool.

saying to someone that its possible if they are legit homebrew coders is not an answer lol, anything is possible if you are a coder and dont need to bypass the hardware limitations...

its like someone asks if there a dreamcast emulator for wiiu? and you say yes if you code one for wiiu with the best performance and the best dynarec possible... I mean for me this is not an answer, the op was clearly asking if its possible now through some exisitng means and not for means that dont exist and have to be made by homebrew coders if ever and you basically replied. well if you code it yourself its possible type of answer which just confuses people more in the end.

Bro, if there are examples that blatantly show that it CAN be done, you can't say it's impossible (sorry, "no way it can be done"). I'm not sitting here saying anyone can do it. But I'm also not gonna take the answer of it simply can't be done, when it already has been. You were wrong, get over it.

Since you can use an adapter to plug a GC, or PS2, or any other dance pad into a PC and play pretty much every DDR song released ever in Stepmania plus many more that were never in an official DDR game, there isn't a whole lot of point in someone going through the trouble of patching in GC adapter support for that specific game. Honestly, I recommend just playing Stepmania instead.

User wilm0x42 developed the patch for Brawl / Project M but it requires a physical disc and unmodified iOS. They had no plans to port it to other games. There has been irregular and infrequent progress reports over the years in an attempt to patch it to USB Loaders / CIOS.

Original discussion thread, GitHub repo, latest progress report (from 11 months ago)

wilm0x42 says he's available on discord to chat about the project and that the most recent build (unreleased) is "...working in USB Loader GX with d2x-alt. (PHEW) Alas, now it's broken everywhere else except dolphin."

There is another version developed by chadderz that should support most disc based games based on an earlier revision of the code in CTGP that supports the feature. They never got around to publishing the updated code, but this one works fairly well. It requires brainslug. Chadderz did indicate at some point, that it would be possible for brainslug or the module to support USB loaders if a developer was up for the challenge.

Hmm, someone must have taken that work and gone the extra mile because the version I have of both Brawl and Project M does not require the physical disc and works with GameCube controllers through the adapter directly when launched directly from the Wii U menu. I wish I could remember where I grabbed the copies I have.

As to the point of having no plans to port to other games, yes I said as much a few times here already.

Wow! I thought I was on top of all developments in this space... are you POSITIVE they work with the adapter? Was the download available as a patch that you integrate into a package yourself or a pre-made installable file? I generally don't keep up with pre-made packages.

Yeah man, I grabbed the download links like 2 or 3 years ago, I've played Project M a handful of times on my Wii U with gamecube controllers in this way. It wasn't a patch, it was a full download link, I do remember that. I wanna say it may have been briefly hosted on that iso site before it was shut down.

I know it would be a lot of effort on your end, but it would be awesome if you could get the patch file circulating again back into the community!

It has been a very long time since manually installing Wii games, but I think its possible to retrieve the patch with a little bit of effort.

If you don't have the installer, you would first have to FTP into the directory of Brawl / Project M and copy the NFS files to your computer before the step below.

If you have the original installer file, you would need to convert the NFS back to ISO then create an ISO patch of the difference in the image. This would allow you to share the patch without any copyright code.

I don't have the original installation, deleted those long ago. I'll look into it, but I'd be lying if I said you should get your hopes up on me achieving this any time soon.

I spent the past hour looking online and I'm not finding a single person claiming to have WiiVC gamecube support, only gamepad support which has been well documented. You might be the only one, lol.

I think DDD would be the first step I would try. Run the home-brew then click on your app and it should dump all the files to your computer. If you are successful with that step, then we can talk about what to do next.

If that doesn't work, you can manually grab the files from the drive directly, but I only advise this if you are already comfortable with FTP and navigating directories on your WiiU. Otherwise, DO NOT TRY THIS!

1. Pop in a spare drive that you are comfortable formatting (losing all data), copy over the game using the WiiU copy tool.
2. Remove your main drive and only have the newly copied to drive connected.
3. Connect the WiiU to your computer over the network using FTPiiU Everywhere
4. The game files will be stored in storage_usb/usr/title
