So i havent been using my PSP for a very long time due to not replacing some parts that ended up breaking like the wifi and analogue stick but i want to get back to using it. However the current battery in it is bloated and im not willing to risk using that and i believe my memory stick duo has also become corrupted and while i have a backup of the contents i want to get a bigger size for it anyway. I had an 8GB stick but im not sure what the maxiumum is. Was thinking 16 or 32gb should be enough?

I was wondering if you guys have any good recommendations on either. I am running a PSP-1000 model that originally came from Japan, custom firmwared it ages ago i believe its currently running 5.00 M33 atm.

I suggest a MSPD->MicroSD adapter (but maybe get a few of them as they are rather flimsy) and as for the battery, you can't get original batteries anymore so you'll have to settle for cheapo Chinese crap, and there isn't really a huge selection, so whatever you can find new is probably just as good as anything.

I've seen that people do that to get more space right? Will it stick out or can it be closed?
As for the battery well i expected chinese crap but is there any recommended chinese crap? Id rather one that doesnt blow in my face. Guess it also has to be 1800mAh since its a first gen model too.

Maybe you meant 1800 mAh? Anyway, the original one should be 1600mAh.
You have not specified your country, however on ebay and Amazon you will easily find them: they are all chinese products, equally shoddy. In theory a 3600mAh battery should work too (as specified in those ads) but it's a risk...😁

LMFAO 100% i did sorry was also helping a friend in another case so memory was on the mind :) Im from Australia so yeah ebay would likely be my first guess but so many of them are advertising above while some are advertising as 1800Mah but still cautious on those. Some say its fits 1000 series some it doesnt so yeah. Kinda why i was hoping for a few suggestions on "reputable" chinese one

As for me, I use three 32gb microSD (with a chinese MS Pro Duo); one for PSP games (practically only JRPG games), one for PSX eboots and one for emulators of old consoles and PC FPS ports (Doom 1/2/3, Quale 1/2, Duke Nukem 3D, etc).
I use Sandisk brand, good quality at a good price: never had problems.

Personally, I’d get one large one to reduce swapping. Had a Sandisk Pro Duo break inside the console once.

Higher capacity mSDs are relatively cheap now e.g. 128GB for £10-20

It seems equally unlikely to me that it would physically break inside the console. You meant to say that it stopped working, I suppose. Anyway, my bad...

No, it physically broke.

If you look at the image above, the plastic where the arrow is broke off and got stuck inside the console.

I would take a picture, but unfortunately that was over a decade and two house moves ago, so I don' know where it is, or even if I still have it.

On the plus side, trying to find it, I just discovered my 2000s battery has swollen so badly the battery's case started to break.

This is a well known fact: these batteries, if not used for a long time and stored uncharged, swell enormously and absurdly...

Can confirm, the first time I tried to charge my 2000 up after a few years, it swelled until the battery door popped off.

It's the same size as an original MSPD. Apparently the PSP takes a very long time to load the games with bigger cards so I wouldn't go too big. PSP games are about a gig each, you can fit a lot on a 64 or 128 GB card.

I would like to point out that this only happens if you put away the empty battery. If, on the other hand, it is stored already charged, it will only lose some charge over time, but it will not swell.

Storing a battery fully charged is bad too, it should be stored around half charge. But if you leave it for years it doesn't matter, it will self-discharge until it's fully drained anyway.

Also. Send me one of those smileys again and I'm blocking you.

I've never sent you a smiley! I only post them here in the forums, in front of everyone...😖😂🤣

And stop threatening me over trifles!
Why can't I be free to express myself freely, always respecting others?
Let's discuss with maturity and common sense but also with a touch of irony. 😉

Clarification: I also meant to say: set them aside already charged, not leave them in the console!

I'm well aware that they will discharge over time, but they won't deteriorate to the point of swelling. and then you can reload them again. The battery of my dear, old PSP 3004 is a perfect evidence of this.
Did I make myself clear? 😎

Taking the battery out does generally help stop the self discharge since it's not powering the RTC or whatever else in the console anymore, but if I take the battery out chances are I will misplace it and not find it when I need it.
But it only slows down the self discharge, it doesn't change the fact that eventually the battery will still discharge below the minimum safe voltage of 2.5V and if charged up in that state it could swell.

I hope the OP isn't upset that I hijacked his thread, but I'd like to add something, for the sake of accuracy.

Most of the online testimonials report the case of the battery left inside the PSP unused for a long time, and then found with the lid broken and the battery already swollen. 🤔

I've never heard of it swelling afterwards, during charging: obviously in this case it was already swelling, but it wasn't visible yet...😉
