When I go on my disks channel thing on my Wii, a GameCube disk shows up. On the side it still says RVL-101. Ik this means it doesn’t have GameCube stuff, and you’d be be right? It doesn’t have the ports or fold, but the software says otherwise. This occurred to me when I got ddr for Wii but didn’t know how to plug it in. Help????

RVL-001 - older model with GameCube ports.
RVL-101 - newer model without GameCube ports.

I’m guessing you will need the (Mayflash) USB adapter for the ports.
This is correct. A Mayflash adapter works great, and the analog triggers work as intended

Nintendo got lazy with the software on RVL-101. They left out a few hardware parts (connectors for controllers and memory card as well as some small electronic components related to those), made the drive unable to catch small 8cm discs and that's it. The software of the RVL-101 is not adapted to the missing parts and shows GameCube stuff in Data Management and the small disc in the Disc Channel.
The Wii Mini (RVL-201) and the Wii U in Wii mode don't show those remnants of the backwards compatibility.

Your best bet with your current console is a USB to GC adapter like mentioned above -- works great with Nintendont. Sadly it will not work by just plugging it in and loading a disc from Disc Channel. If you want to go crazy you can expand your Wii with the missing components cannibalizing a dead RVL-001 motherboard and a working drive with the ability to use GC discs. This has already been done (proof of concept) but it is a lot of hard word and requires a lot of equipment like a preheater for desoldering the large connectors.

Wii consoles have been dirt cheap one or two years ago, but have gotten mildly more valuable now. Nevertheless you might be able to find a RVL-001 for a good price. Sometimes they are sold console only without any cables or controllers which can be a good deal if you have all the peripherals.

Good luck and have fun!

The software doesn't say otherwise, but Nintendo never updated the Wii interface to not show a GC disc on RVL-101 models. Just know that RVL-101 models do not have a DVD drive that can "grab" the smaller GC discs and that a Mayflash solution requires using Nintendont.

As a bit of background, hardly any of the 50-70 million exergamers who bought a Wii cared in the least that it could play GC games, and those that did presumably bought one in the early days in the Wii. I've owned my Wii since 2007 and played my first GC game on it in 2019 (that's also when I played my last GC game on it).

another solution is that you can play gamecube games with the wii mote + nunchuck using nintendont. There aren't enough buttons/sticks so it's kind of annoying.
