A new update has been detected! Nintendo has just put out a system software update for the Nintendo Switch, which brings the console up to official firmware version 12.0.0. This time around, we have an actual reason as to what this update entails: a “rare” save backup error had been resolved. The changelog mentions nothing else, despite it being an update from 11.0.1 to 12.0.0. If you haven’t already learned by now, don’t update your hacked systems until you have the all-clear from established scene hackers.

Ver. 12.0.0 (Released April 5, 2021)
We fixed the issue with the save data backup feature, where in rare cases, the automatic backup of save data is interrupted if a communication error occurs during completion of the save data backup process.

Yeah, themes at this point are just pictures and I think XML files. The fact that multiple modders have made better themes and UI, says a lot about Nintendo this gen. In my mind, they don't want to bother with themes since it would possibly slow down the UI again like how awful the Wii U was pre 4.0.

I wonder what in this update that they don't mention... Gotta say, this doesn't look good for Nintendo.
They really should be a bit more transparent with these things.

But then again, perhaps this is the first firmware that is fully ready to be running and preinstalled on the "Switch Pro".
If that's the case, then I can kind of understand the lack of documentation since that hardware isn't officially announced yet.

Will SX make a triumphant return from withing the shadows? Or will we bury them once and for all? That's the only exciting thing about this update.

This is the question.

I still find it odd: 11.0.0 got a quick update but 11.0.1 was never heard of. Just doesn't make sense, that they did not adjust for this minor update when they were still around.

So as someone who runs Atmosphere emuMMC now but never had an update since, can I just update my sysMMC and keep emuMMC on the old version?

It would be nice for consumers if they only added major versions for feature releases or new icons or something that isn't just a bug fix or a security update.

No console supports Bluetooth audio for a reason, it's a terrible protocol for gaming.

It downgrades to terrible quality when using the mic and the latency is too high.
They could've just easily used something like Qualcomm's AptX Low Latency protocol, more and more devices are starting to support AptX protocols in general nowadays. Also imo Bluetooth audio isn't as bad as you describe it...

Can we NOT turn in this to a fucking SX vs. AMS thread? I will start suspending people if their only goal is to derail threads in to that. And no, I'm not kidding. I got a list of people in my head who does it all the time.
