A new update has been detected! Nintendo has just put out a system software update for the Nintendo Switch, which brings the console up to official firmware version 12.0.0. This time around, we have an actual reason as to what this update entails: a “rare” save backup error had been resolved. The changelog mentions nothing else, despite it being an update from 11.0.1 to 12.0.0. If you haven’t already learned by now, don’t update your hacked systems until you have the all-clear from established scene hackers.

Ver. 12.0.0 (Released April 5, 2021)
We fixed the issue with the save data backup feature, where in rare cases, the automatic backup of save data is interrupted if a communication error occurs during completion of the save data backup process.

Only hardware revisions could stop a game form working on a lower version to get technical.
If it ran on x firmware, then there is nothing physically stopping it from running on a lower firmware as long as the system has not been hardware revised.
How would a game, needing a new feature to work run on a lower firmware?
For example ring fit needs support for the ringcon, which if I remember it correctly needed to be build in the HID system module. So to be able to run on a firmware before this got added, someone would need to implement the hid module and backport the changes this way, otherwise it will not work.
This can also happen for other things, like internal apis for accessing files, apis for accessing the local communication and more.

SciresM got his second COVID shot today so he doesn't feel great, but he's still gonna try to stream himself digging into the new update. He says it's kind of big, but he always gives 100% to get Atmosphere out as soon as he can.

Posted a short status update in the atmosphere thread.

Was it ever done by them in the first place?
I should have clarified I mean general Bluetooth capability. While it may not be true that they never implemented it to stop softmodding (it was an exploit for the Wii Mini), I still believe they left out the web browser over fear of an exploit.
