ROM Hack Bricked 2DS XL?

I bought a refurbished 2DS XL off the Gamestop website last year. I also got an R4 SDHC GOLD Pro 2020 flashcard. I updated my device yesterday and now it gives me an error that says ARM11 (core 1). I never jailbroke/hacked my ds or anything, the closest thing I ever did to anything like that was using the R4 card. When it used to work properly, the screen said it was a 3DS which I always thought was odd but ignored it, not sure if that matters. When I press and hold Power + Select, it gives me a Luma 3DS v10.0.1 configuration menu. I'm not too sure what that or the issue is. Can someone please help me fix this?

Your console is definitely hacked with Luma3DS CFW. That's a fact.

If you didn't hack, someone did it before you bought it. Probably it was the previous owner.

If your SD card has Luma3DS CFW files on it already, you need to update your CFW to the latest version (10.2.1). Just replace the boot.firm file on the root of your SD card.

If you don't have your SD card with the Luma3DS files (you probably don't, as it seems you weren't aware that your console was hacked) you still add the boot.firm to the root of your SD card and follow the instructions from this section of the 3ds.hacks.guide website.

I want to add that before posting here, I tried updating Luma like I kept seeing online when I looked up my issue and it didn't work. Anyway, I had to format my SD card because of an error I got in the middle of following the instructions in the 3DS Hacks Guide and had no idea what to do next. I found another post on this website about downloading the CFW starter kit, followed that, then the Finalizing Setup guide you linked and everything works great, thanks guys!

What happened was simple, the person who had it before you hacked it and put Luma on it which despite being called a custom firmware is really just a set of patches to the official firmware, a custom system module, and a few other things not a full firmware. Sometimes when a new system update comes out Luma can no longer find the correct parts of Ninty's firmware to patch so you get an error message when booting and is easily fixed by updating Luma to a version that supports the 3ds firmware you are on. That being said, when a new 3ds firmware that breaks Luma is released it can take a day or three days for Luma to be updated to work again.

In your case, since there haven't been any recent 3ds firmware updates all you needed to do was update to the latest Luma.

lol you're lucky. you got saved the trouble of hacking it yourself which is kinda fun imo but a bit of a hustle.
