I just want to be able to play backups. My 360 has a busted disk drive. Anyway to install a backup loader with just a flash drive?

if your drive is busted, you may be able to use the xkey, but I'm not sure if it requires a working drive. you'd still need to open up the system to get the drive keys, which may or may not be possible if it's broken.
you can play games without a modchip, but the level of difficulty really depends on the drive.
hmm, i know i can buy a replacement drive on amazon. might try that then see about getting an xkey installed
If your current drive can't be read to obtain the key because it's broken , then you need to read the key off the motherboard and there is no way to do that without a modchip or JTAG if it's an extremely old xbox.
I'd have to look in jungle flasher pdf to see how that drive is flashed, but an xkey would be better probably, no need to burn discs. that's what I'd suggest if you can't solder, though I think some drives might require soldering.
What do you mean by the current drive can't be read? How does one normally get the key?

I don't think this particular drive requires soldering. I had previously purchased a drive off amazon but got the wrong one and it required soldering which i don't know how to do. So with xkey I can FTP my backups onto the xbox hard drive and mount them without a disk drive?
So , if the drive is broken to a point where it doesn't power up , it might prove very difficult, even impossible to read the key off the drive. Without this key no other drive can't ever work to play games on your xbox. I think it still can play music CDs though.
The drive opens it just doesn't read discs. When a disc goes in the 360 acts like there is nothing in it.
