it's not a jailbreak, it's an exploit.
:-)) I’m not surprised to read your comment, (Posts from you that I read are always accurate and on purpose). and I agree on your “ statement “. we should suggest admins to name some forums “differently “ then :-))

it's the same with calling it cfw imo. you are more restricted on the ps4 than any system I've ever seen where an exploit existed.

Yeap, I totally agree, but at least “something “ exists, :-)), wich is not the case for all systems

my ps4 has essentially become a dumping system. I've dumped about 40 themes for people wanting to see how they work. every fix I've made has worked with the official pkg. :D you have to redo the ftp payload after every dump or when you go into system settings to change themes. I've heard it's a pita on 7.02 to get more than one payload to run at once. I'm still on 5.05 though. :)

Well, I’ve started “learning “ about PS4 “hacks “, recently, and on 6.72, as It was the firmware of the PS4 Pro I bought, but been fiddling with systems since commodore 64 , :-))
I ‘m already happy to have been able to do my own dumps, :-)), and believe me , I struggled with some games, actually patches were “complicated “ some times.

I didn't backup my dlc when I first started exploiting the system. I thought it was too complicated, but dlc and themes are dumped the same way. it's not too difficult, but it's a pita compared with games and patches. I can do a theme in about four minutes from start (being on the computer), to making a fix, installing it on the system, changing to the theme, and ftping it. a few times, someone has sent me like 13 themes. thus far, I've never had a failure dumping official theme pkgs with a fix I made.

it might take a bit longer to make a fix and official pkg together, but I've managed to. :D one pkg instead of two, but it is easier just to make the fix as it only needs the content id.

But its fine for Atmosphere to be considered a CFW even if it behaves the same way as the exploit on the PS4?

afaik, it doesn't really behave the same way. there are a lot of restrictions with the ps4 like the fact that all themes require fixes, the system must decrypt saves before you can transfer them, you can't use official pkgs unless you own the game, etc. rest mode also doesn't work with 7.02 and a new exploit has to be discovered as we slowly creep up to current firmware while the switch still relies on the same exploits for every firmware.

They don't behave the same way not just because of the differences in the exploit itself but in the CFW/HEN environment as well. The PS4 uses a warmboot exploit launched through the browser to achieve privilege escalation while the Switch utilizes a coldboot hack before the main OS is launched. Rest mode not working is not related to the exploit but rather the CFW/HEN that is used. There was a time rest mode was not working with the Switch when using the exploit but that was fixed not because they fixed the exploit but because they fixed the environment the exploit was launching into. Not only that but the exploit used on the Switch only works on consoles with a certain hardware so firmware is irrelevant. To put it in other words, the exploit can both work and not work on the same firmware. What I'm trying to say is these "restrictions" you speak of are not related to the exploit but rather what happens after the exploit which is the CFW or HEN depending on what scene you are a part of. CFW on the Switch acted and still acts very much like how HEN operates on the PS4, the only difference is how accepting people are of the terminology.

no, I mean atmosphere can do many things. there's no payload on the ps4 that can do everything, so you have to deploy them one after another, which can lead to kernel panics (another thing I've never heard of with the switch). I never said I called atmosphere cfw anyway, but to call the exploit on the ps4 a cfw is completely wrong. it doesn't behave like a cfw at all. if it did, we wouldn't need the system to do by default 90% of everything that happens. we do not have the pfs keys.

you're basically comparing apples to oranges here, and putting words into my mouth. I said nothing about atmosphere to begin with.

I never said you called it a CFW. And equally there is on payload on the Switch that can do everything so just like the PS4, you have to deploy them one after another. This may not lead to kernel panics but the console does crash which can turn into a fatal error requiring the entire system to reboot. And it not "behaving" like a CFW seems to miss the definition of a CFW which Wikipedia puts it best:
Custom firmware, also known as aftermarket firmware, is an unofficial new or modified version of firmware created by third parties on devices such as video game consoles and various embedded device types to provide new features or to unlock hidden functionality
Source
I merely bring up Atmosphere because it doesn't meet the original definition of CFW which was used in the days of the PS3 and earlier to describe code that was literally installed to the system. While it may not be installed like CFW on older systems, based on Wikipedia's definition and SciresM's own beliefs, it still behaves like a CFW which I would agree extends to the environment created on the PS4.

Mira will one day be the closest PS4 gets to “CFW”.

It’s a shame neither of these systems have perma, coldboot, installable customised firmware update files.
Well you could always install a modchip on the Switch right? Unless you meant strictly through software in which case...we as a collective kind of contributed to modern systems preventing that altogether.

Ok but the exploits allowed us to install and play dump games right do we always need to be online like connect to a host.
