CD Projekt promises refunds for retail buyers of Cyberpunk 2077, even if it's out of their pocket

4HtNCXG.png

As CD Projekt Red attempts to put out the fires caused by the rocky launch of Cyberpunk 2077, it's time yet again for a special message, that yes, comes in a black text on a bright yellow background format. After PlayStation removed the game from their storefront yesterday night, CD Projekt Red has updated their initial return policy statement and claims that they will be helping any unsatisfied owners of Cyberpunk 2077 that purchased their copy through a third party and cannot currently get a refund. Initially, the company asked for fans to wait for any patches before attempting to refund, but if they wanted to, they could do so by contacting "[email protected]". Now, all you need is a valid proof of purchase, and to send an email to the aforementioned contact, to which CD Projekt Red will refund all willing buyers, even if it's "out of [their] own pocket if necessary". You have until December 21st to get in touch with them, should you want a refund on your physical copy or retail digital copy.

Those that bought the game digitally on PlayStation are being given refunds currently, Microsoft is allowing refunds on digital purchases of Cyberpunk 2077 as well.

Should have delayed it. CDPRS didn't deserve this.

They were rushed to releasing it because people were desperate to play it.

there isn't? why do i keep hearing about a performance and visual modes for those versions of the game, is that just the backwards compatible version that has that built in? or is that just review copies
It plays at the PS4 Pro resolution (about 1200p) and a locked 60 FPS. Most PS4 games play at a higher resolution than that and at a locked 60 FPS on PS5, but I wouldn't say CP2077 looks bad relative to other AAA games. It just looks kinda bad relative to the PC version.

Hold on a second. This sounds rife with possible exploits. What's stopping someone from buying the game from the store and then getting a refund from CDPR? Then they have the game AND a refund. Or even worse, return it to the store to get a do

I don't know what they're thinking.

"hmm you got my thinking of a diff kind of exploit -evil grin-

Bullshit. They were rushed to release it by their investors to cash in on the Christmas period.

They totally deserve all the fallout from this. From restricting pre release review copies to the PC version, requiring reviews to only show authorised; cherry picked footage and not once showing last gen versions before release.

Don't get me wrong, I feel sorry for the devs, but as a corporation they deserve all of this.

CDRPS were sent death threats so I feel for the devs. This will impact their image in the grand scale.

Meh, I say give it a year and people will be insistent that CP2077 is as good as, if not better than The Witcher 3 (which also had a rough launch window).

Seems to be widely forgotten that Witcher 3 had some big issues itself.

Honestly, the hype around this game pre-launch was so damn massive and obnoxious that it just feels good to see it falling apart into itty-bitty pieces like this. People were expecting this to be, like, game of the decade or some shit.

That's what they get for not focusing on PS4/XB1X console ports and not releasing half-assed bug-riddled games. Who do they think they are, Bethesda? Also, the fact they wouldn't show footage of last gen gameplay? Red flag. Also CDPR games are overhyped and overrated.

Only because these gamers were whiny, jobless fuckwits who didn't get their way and didn't want to wait.

This is so overblown. Buggy games get released all the time. Ubisoft would need to be arrested if this was industry practice.
to be fair even ubisoft doesnt release games this buggy, seriously it seems they released some sort of beta version, specialy the 1.00 version on disc seems like unfinished beta game, ubisoft games have bugs but they dont fell like betas unlike this one, way too many too list.

i think this game still needed like 3 more months or so of development to reach 1.00 imo, where it might have bugs but minor ones, this one has way too much and off every type
performance, textures, loading freezes, crashes, etc, name a technical bug on any game and it probably exists on this game
Guys, I think there no need to rush for refund, let's have faith in CD projekt will keep the promise and fix the game.
why would people wait and keep the game on standby for the patches?
you can get a full refund and then in 3 months when they fix the game you can buy the game physically with a huge ass discount online easily or even an used copy.

this is all their fault really, why they didnt give any console review copys and only pc ones? why did they say the game performed remarkably well on last gen consoles afew days before launch when it didnt? they basically did this to themselves imo.

Considering Cyberpunk's been in development for, what, 8 years? And most of that was for the now-previous generation...it's kinda shocking for those releases to be so irredeemably awful.

We all know that the GotD's already been released - it's either Persona 5 Royal or Ghost of Tsushima. There's no way something better will be produced and released in the next nine years, nope.

Game still feels like it was hyped to all hell only for it to crash and burn with bugs galore. All that time crunch for what, to release on time at the cost of many employees' mental health? Screw CDPR, let them get knocked down some rungs.

I don't know what they're thinking.
The double refund is fucky where people can make profit, but if we are going by the modus operandi of the company, GOG, I think they're fine taking that risk. Their entire mantra is that they think people will respect DRM-free copies of games and buy them instead of pirating cracked games. Viewed through this glass, it's kind of on point. People are just pirating the physical copy instead of pirating the digital one.

This still doesn't excuse their absolute garbage release, nor the other shit that went out of this release.

8 years. Developed for 2 console generations. New technologies like raytracing. Crunch after crunch and shit management. I'd put some serious money that if you or any of these other bandwagoners were in their shoes? Your tune would change. All we see is what they're doing from the outside. We don't know why the game released like it did. Short of leaked insider information about meetings and trying pry information from upper management to be met with vague responses.

It's one thing for a game to not work on any of the platforms that saw a release. It's far and away a different thing when one generation (a weak one at that) of consoles doesn't work right.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. This mess could have been avoided if they didn't make the effort to release on the PS4 and Xbox One.. But they did. I don't know why, but they did. Just to quickly amass an obscene amount of shit slinging.

Too many people running around with torches and pitchforks. Not enough sense going through their heads. If they acted like this with EVERY BROKEN GAME RELEASE of the PAST DECADE? Then I wouldn't be surprised. Really. It's just weird to me that they choose CP to get all uppity about.

I have no intention of claiming a refund. The game works fine on my busted-ass base model PS4, dunno what the fuss is all about. A few glitches never hurt anyone. If you're overlooking all the things this game gets right like story, world-building, characters, gameplay, decisions and generally fantastic writing, all because the graphics aren't top notch and there's a few bugs? Then guess what? You were NEVER gonna enjoy the game anyway. If all you care about are the shallow and superficial aspects of an RPG like this then you're not the target audience, never were. This game could be released as a Gameboy Colour game and I'd still think it was great because of all it gets right. If you can't see any of that because the bugs are so distracting, you're not looking very hard.

And to those who send death threats and hate mail to the devs when this decision was out of their control, try doing anything with your pathetic lives that's worth defending. Try having something to be proud of messed with by some ass hat executive looking for a quick buck. Have your passion project ruined by greed and then somehow YOU get the blame for it. That's the kind of shit that makes creative people give up, lose that spark and go work for EA. Or worse, blow their brains out in despair. So your fancy new toy doesn't distract you from your empty and meaningless life as well as you'd hoped. Get over it. This kind of behaviour will never be acceptable under any circumstances.

I'm not saying there aren't any problems with the game. I'm saying get some perspective. Throwing around words like 'betrayal' like you have any idea what that means. This isn't a betrayal. It's a minor and temporary disappointment. The only people who don't know that are the kind of pointless husks of people who have never done anything of note. Never made anything, never experienced anything, never fought for anything, never had their hopes and dreams crushed after years of hard graft. You act all high and mighty and that you're entitled to a flawless shining gem of a game because you say so when the truth is you're nothing, nobody, and never will be until you check your attitude. Grow up, go have some real shit happen to you, live an actual life instead of living for the momentary high of some new shiny thing making you feel like more than you actually are.

The Witcher 3 had some pretty big issues, yeah, but not nearly on the level of Cyberpunk's. There are also some very bad design choices in the game that weren't present in TW3.

This game needed more time in the oven. We shouldn't accept half-baked games and become the beta testers for them.
