Nintendo 3DS gets a new firmware update for version 11.14.0-46

dims.jpg

2020 hasn't been the most stable year, but at least Nintendo is hard at work making sure that above all else, the Nintendo 3DS is the most stable thing in your life during these trying times. The system has just received a brand new firmware update, the first of 2020, to be exact, bringing the revision number to 11.14.0-46. Currently, the yls8 page shows us that a few changes were made regarding the web browser, NATIVE_FIRM, and more. The official changelog from Nintendo says the oh so popular phrase you've come to love:
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Considering the random nature of this update, and the first few initial claims of those that took the plunge already, you might want to hold off on updating for right now, if you value having homebrew on your console. Reports state that Luma3DS is crashing, and that BrowserHax has been patched.

Jsyk update Luma, then update the system, and everything should be fine

If you update the system first, your system might crash, and then you will have to update using PC & SD card manually.

Browserhax 2020 is the first major userland exploit I can think of that's been patched out since 11.7. Pretty much all the other ones are still working as well as they ever did. They are not "constantly being patched out and broken".

(If your reference is 3dbrew, then that page is unfortunately an outdated mess. Some day I may work up the nerve to fix it.)
If you are going to bring up the fact that Luma3DS was broken before, then I am going to bring up that userland exploits have been patched far more often. My point still stands that it’s a poor argument to make when it’s far simpler and far less of a hassle to just update one file compared to dealing with userland exploits. There’s literally no reason to avoid installing a CFW if one is going to be messing with homebrews on their 3DS.

Nope, it won't. This was a remote browser exploit which was patched because it could be exploited by a malicious website, no different than when they patched the streetpass exploit which could be used to remotely brick systems. The only reason Luma broke is because it relies on patching specific code patterns which will often change whenever a new kernel comes out, if you have ever played Fallout 4 or Skyrim on PC with mods then you know how after a game update you have to wait for F4SE/SKSE to be updated to match.
So you mean to tell me... It actually improved stability to enhance user's experience?

You have said that several times, but that is simply not the case. Not in the last few years, at least.

My point still stands that it’s a poor argument to make when it’s far simpler and far less of a hassle to just update one file compared to dealing with userland exploits.
Even the last time userland exploits got broken, fixing steelhax, at least, was also simply a matter of updating one file (namely otherapp.bin). Picchax would have been the same, but it wasn't even out at the time.

There’s literally no reason to avoid installing a CFW if one is going to be messing with homebrews on their 3DS.
And if your interests in homebrew extend only so far as messing with savedata, custom themes, and whatever .3dsx files are still working, then there is no reason to install CFW. Especially because if you get tired of userland exploits, you can quickly uninstall them forever and never have to worry about message board arguments ever again. :-p

Soon enough the 3ds will be stable enough to cause orgasmic level of pleasure when playing one

but seriously, shittendo, just give up and forget about the 3ds already, you just look pathetic with these 'stability' patches
use that time you waste on this to actually fix your current crap

like the pipes of yer hq, 'cus they keep leaking

- Browserhax patched.
- Other unreleased exploits patched (don't know what).
- Luma3ds crashing but should be fixable.
(had to delete link in reply cause I'm a new member and cant post links-rendolyn) (here's the fix)

Use caution when updating if you have cfw.
If you don't have cfw, you might want to wait to update.

Does anyone know how to update?? I haven't used homebrew (luma??) in a while so I'm not sure

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
