From early 2021, all Minecraft Java Edition players will have to migrate their accounts into a Microsoft account for "improved security". This isn't supposed to change the game much, it won't break custom skins or mods, and Microsoft will even be giving out a cape to all players who migrate, but what do you think about this? This seems similar to the recent announcement about Oculus VR devices requiring Facebook accounts, which most people were not happy about. (https://gbatemp.net/threads/oculus-...facebook-logins-the-company-announces.572185/)

"migrating from Mojang to Microsoft accounts is mandatory. If you don’t make the move, in several months you won’t be able to log in anymore – which means you won’t be able to play either."

My personal opinion: It's exactly stupid things like this that make me hate digital copies of games. I never want to have any stupid Microsoft account, and at this point I'd just delete my Minecraft/Mojang account if not the fact that I already bought Minecraft on it many years ago. What's next, GitHub also migrating to Microsoft accounts and forcing all users to set one up just so they can continue doing their work???
And don't tell me that "Google is your friend", even if this will cause some players to play a pirate copy of the game because the game company is causing it themselves, you still won't have the full functionality of the game because most Minecraft game servers are configured to require legitimate accounts.

Just don't update? It's actually REALLY annoying to have a seperate mojang account for a microsoft game. I don't really get what your aversion is to this. Mojang is a microsoft company

I think it's very good, because I play both (Java and Bedrock), and I don't like have multiple accounts for the same game.
Mojang has done a fabulous thing :) Moreover, microsoft account is more safe than mojang account, and all informations are in.

If you pirate the game and lose servers, that’s your fault for being a whiny bitch tbh.

Fuck that came out wrong
Meh- I feel like no online is a good trade for not having to pay for a game.

Although with this game, you’re kinda missing a lot without servers and stuff

Yeah my point came out wrong, I meant that some people were complaining that they’re gonna lose online because they are gonna pirate the game due to this change and were acting like it’s Microsoft’s fault

Yeah, it's Microsoft's fault if people have to pirate the game because Microsoft took their digital copy away from them. I still don't know if I can do anything about this...

Yes, it runs it just fine, why?
Cause you said your pc was 12 years old, and mc chugs on my decent laptop, so I guess I should switch to Linux

Oh god, does this mean mc is ending Linux support?

That's a very good question. It'd piss a lot of people off.

Well unlike Facebook, most people who use Windows 10 have a microsoft account of some sort already so the vast majority of people shouldn't have much trouble migrating their accounts. Like if you ever played the 360 or xbox one online, you have an account.

Well it might be 12 years old but it has gotten some upgrades like more old ddr2 memory which would have probably been much more expensive 12 years ago.

And for the second question, I don't see why they would do that, the entire game is in Java anyway so I don't think you need to do too much work to keep it compatible with Java on other systems. They say that this move won't change anything about the game, but this forced move to the Microsoft system is the main issue for me...

How do you get windows without an ms acc?
You set it up without letting it connect to the internet
