Hacking Should I have double the space when i use the fbi tool to install a cia file.

From my experience, you need to guarantee at least the same amount of space of the *.CIA file you are installing... So yeah, you're right... Unless there are some exceptions.

you can always use the install and delete option so technically, you would only ever need about 6gb (biggest game is somewhere around that) free. so for every game installed you're not keeping the cia file and no extra space (or at least very minimal extra is used)

True, but you still need to guarantee the space before the system deletes the *.cia file, as this only happens after the installation.

You can install a cia file over the network from a computer and then you won't need twice the space to store the file on the 3DS before installing it

if a game is 2gb then using fbi you will need 4gb free on the sd card

I dont think games uncompress any data from cia, its just a container, and if anything does grow its very minimal in size, so keeping 6gb free would be more than enough as it would take up that space, then free up the same amount of space afterwards

Sure, it makes sense... I was just saying that you need double the space if you install your games using FBI, even if you choose the option "install and delete", as it will only delete the CIA file after installation and there's a brief moment before the CIA file is deleted where both files will be in the SD Card at the same time (the installed game and the CIA file). It's at this stage that double the space is required to have a successful installation.
