NINTENDO 64 Wii to Wii U SAVE FILE CONVERSION

First, find the type of Save for your games. There are five different ones.

Save type - EEPROM
I was trying to transfer my Mario Kart 64 virtual console save from the Wii to WiiU. This program worked! I am so happy that I did not lose progress and can play with the WiiU features. Here are the steps I did:

**Wii VC to WiiU VC Save files Conversion:**
*For both Wii and Wii U games, make sure you run the games and then turn the power off while running the game. This avoids creating a savestate, which will overwrite normal saves upon loading.
*Download SBN64 latest here: https://github.com/DarkMatterCore/sbn64

1. On WiiU, use "SaveMii Mod" (https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-savemii-wii-u-vwii-savefile-manager.466644/) to extract both Wii and WiiU saves (this creates the correct filenames and paths on SD card)

2. Put the Wii save and sbn64.exe in the same folder.
*Below is an example of Mario Kart 64 (Savemii named the Wii save "EEP_NKTE" and the WiiU save "Unkte0.024.sav")

3. In Windows' CMD prompt, go to the correct directory and run this:
"sbn64 -i "EEP_NKTE" -o "Unkte0.024.sav" -s wiivc -d wii64"

It will say:
Simple Byteswapper for N64 Saves v1.73 - By DarkMatterCore
Detected save type: EEPROM (128 Kbits).
Conversion process successfully completed!

4. Copy "Unkte0.024.sav" back to Wii U's Mario Kart 64 path on the SD card and use SaveMii to import back to Wii U.

Play the game!

Save type - SRAM
Paper Mario did not need conversion, just copy the Wii save to WiiU on your PC and restore using SaveMii.

How you do the opposite? Convert WiiU save to Wii? Here is what im trying to do.. I have a Mario Golf virtual console save on my Wii U. I want to transfer it to my N64 cart. I have a Retrode 2 for putting the save on the cart but the only instructions ive found online are how to put game saves from wii VC(not wii U) on to a physical cart.

I need something that spits out a data.bin file, then i use a program called FE100 to convert the data.bin into a file that i can flash to the cart

Edit: I think i might have figured it out. I ran "sbn64.exe help" in command line and i think i can get it to work by just reversing the input/output types

Edit 2: "sbn64.exe -i "Unmfe0.443.sav" -o "data.bin" -s wii64 -d wiivc" doesnt work it says "This flash RAM save file does not need to be modified. Just try it with your Wii N64 Virtual Console."

Edit 3: I dont think it will work for mario golf. But i would appricate the help because i have a couple other saves on my wii U VC that i would like to put on the cartridge.

I cant get the retrode 2 to reload a backup after I removed it, which kinda bums me out because the ebay seller who sold me the mario golf cartridge had a pretty good game save. I backed up the original SRA save before i tried loading my VC save. The VC save wouldnt work, but i cant put the original save back on it either.. Boooo. So i assume any other saves coming from a computer and not originally created on the cart must not work. Damn... i did this with GoldenEye from an Emulator saveand it worked perfectly.

That is exactly what I wat to do

3. In Windows' CMD prompt, go to the correct directory and run this:
"sbn64 -i "EEP_NKTE" -o "Unkte0.024.sav" -s wiivc -d wii64"

I don't understand that part, I open windows' CMD, then I just paste the command and this is what it say: "it is not recognized as an internal or external command, executable program or batch file."

Please help, I need to convert some saves files. Thanks!

Has anyone attempted to import save files from NES and SNES games to the Wii U Virtual Console versions of those games? I'm attempting to try it out myself with an SNES game. I'm using Super Mario World (Wii VC) as an example.

EDIT: I tested this method with not one, but three SNES games (SMW, ALttP, Kirby Super Star) and they all work flawlessly using a tool that converts SNES save files to a format that the Virtual Console can recognize. I copied the Wii VC saves to my SD card and extracted them then converted them into a .ves format.
Here's the link for the tool: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-3ds-snes-save-converter.574927

We'll still be waiting for a way to convert NES saves to the Wii U Virtual Console format anytime soon...

This topic should be updated for SNES games. We will still wait for NES games, too. The post above shows my accomplishment of converting an SNES save file to the Wii U Virtual Console format.

Did u make sure CMD prompt is in the correct directory, where the program "sbn64.exe" resides?

1. write "CD [DIRECTORY PATH]" to switch to it.
2. Or just right-click the directory in windows and select "open in terminal" to open the CMD prompt at the right path.

I have a question. Can I use this tool for converting N64 Wii and Wii U Virtual Console save files to the EverDrive 64? If so, how can I do it? I have so many save files from various N64 games on my Wii U that I wanna bring over to my EverDrive 64.
