I was wondering if someone could brief me about the difference between SD memory and internal memory with respect to its functionality with emuNAND, and the process of downloading/updating content. I have all my games on my SD card, and when I switch to emuNAND and try to redownload my games their icons are on my screen, but the console does not recognize that there is an SD card in ,and subsequently I'm given an error related to faulty DNS ( I use 90DNS and airplane mode).

Any information would help, I'm not sure if I'm making an obvious error in my setup or if this is an isolated incident. Thanks.

It depends on how you set it up.

Typically, the sysNAND is copied to a hidden 29GB partition on the SD card which is called the emuMMC. The remaining space on the SD card is what the Switch uses for SD storage (and is where we put our CFW files).

When booting into CFW, the Switch is tricked into using emuMMC instead of SysNAND. We cannot connect to Nintendo in CFW so we use measures to prevent it (or the console may get banned). 90-DNS will prevent this for you - but it means you cannot install/update via the shop.

Edit: you can still install/update on your SysNAND if you boot OFW, alternatively you must install titles/updates using apps such as GoldLeaf, AWOO or TinFoil.

Edit 2: once the emuMMC is created, it is separate to your SysNAND. Games installed via ofw (even if stored on SD card) will not show as installed in CFW; they are now separated.

I see. Is there anyway to migrate the data from my games on ofw to cfw? Can I take my SD card out and copy the game files and place them in the emuMMC partition? Thankyou

The way to do that is to create a new emuMMC from your current SysNAND.

Basically when you install a game/update, some game data is always stored on the nand - then the bulk of the data is stored where you choose. So no, you cannot simply copy games across like that - they must be installed separately on both ofw and cfw. This is why most people don’t use the same SD card for ofw

Edit: personally I keep my legit games on SysNAND, I don’t install duplicates on my emuMMC - I simply switch to ofw when I want to play them

Oh so I guess the reason I still see the icons of my games on emuMMC is because it is stored partially on the internal memory but mostly on the SD card.

So the only way to transfer games to emuNAND from sysNAND is to copy sysNAND and its cfw to a new emuNAND? Wouldnt that defeat the purpose of emuNAND or am I mistaken?

You are mistaken. Your OFW is separated from your CFW.

If you want to play your legit games (e.g. to play online etc) then you must use OFW.

If you want to play homebrew (or perhaps NSP games) then you must use CFW.

There’s no point in having the same game(s) on both; for a start they’ll have separate save files!

Edit: if you have CFW installed on your SysNAND then you don’t even need emuNAND. I would suggest that you don’t install NSPs if you ever want to go online, however

Ah I understand better now. Thanks for the help
