Someone brick his switch while installing the SX CORE. Watch the video and avoid the same mistake




This guy lacks common sense. Why would you pretin those solder pads like that. Especially the anchor points make no sense. He could have just tinned them after he positioned the module.

Also lack of flux. None of the solder points he made actually looked like an acceptable connection.

I'm sure most people can solder this thing with just a little bit of practice. It is not too difficult if you have the correct tools.

Really important a magnifiyng glass with enough zoom , and i bought a solder with thin point for cell phones ,, and need to make as easier as possible , i will practice before and if im lucky for sunday or monday will be able to say if it worked for me , and provide a feedback

I just saw Taobao reseller (like amazon / ebay in china) and it looks like it will be delivered by July 4th (at least for the first batch) in China.

The price is 319¥ which would be around 3$

How is that possible?

A friend of mine who is very skilled soldering (guess who is going to solder mine hehe) doesn't like flux because he says something like "it's dangerous and he prefers cleaning pretty well before soldering" I not sure why he says this... is flux really dangerous or does it have any kind of drawback?

I don't know if it's "dangerous" but I'm also wondering why everyone is saying that its essential since flux is already included in 99% of all tin-solders

Oh thx, still cheaper than elsewhere...

Most solder, especially the cheap stuff, comes with marginal amounts of flux. Adding extra not only helps, it is mandatory when dealing with such small and delicate components.

dangerous how , you mean to human health or to the electronics?

Damn, maybe i think in the wrong way, but resselers are sued, and they havent got chip on hands. Taobao places preorder. Resellers shuting down their sites.

Cant they just make a droppshiping from china factory?

I don't know about the magnifiers everyone is using. Most likely you can solder it without using that.

I would not take my stuff to someone who solders with no flux

I don't know about the magnifiers everyone is using. Most likely you can solder it without using that.
I thought that as well until i received my test unit , i have good sight and its incredibly small , in all the pictures you watch zoomed pictures , and the solder has to be really on the excat points . the good thing is that you can always grab a magnifying glass or microscope once you ve got the chip and flex on your hand
 
Super excited for this! Could of swore I had an account but I'll have to build up my posts a bit to pm a installer!

It's about the same as buying all the stuff honestly. I have bad luck with this kind of thing. I'd get it done soldered perfect and then drop the solder iron and break it lol

I'm not sure your friend is as skilled as you believe, then. While people may disagree on other soldering-related stuff, like 60/40 vs 63/37, or conical vs chisel tips, this is not one of them. Flux is important if you want to make good solder connections, especially when dealing with tiny points like in this case and doubly so considering some of the points are on components that already have that asinine lead-free solder on them. And you have to clean the surfaces really well anyway, flux or no flux.

When he says it's dangerous I kind of get where he's coming from, but it's no excuse. Some types of flux can lead to long-time corrosion if left on the board, but those are usually not meant for electronics and you should clean the surfaces again after finishing, so that's not really an issue. There's also the issue of breathing flux fumes while working, but that's also completely prevented by good soldering practices (working in a well ventilated environment and having a fan or fume extractor removing the fumes).

This, exactly. And if someone wants to try for themselves, buy one of those SMD practice boards (cheap on ebay or aliexpress), some solder that specifically says it has no flux core and see how far you can get.

I used to have a hard time learning how to solder using an old roll of tin that had no flux inside and I even had no separate flux to apply over the connections. It was a mess. I had no idea why it would not ball up and it would need way too much time to make simple connections with too much heating even destroying some components. Until I read around and found about flux (not much on the internet back then), got me a proper soldering station, proper tin with flux, separate flux on the side and I suddenly added +10 to soldering. Sure, it may be bad stuff to breathe if you re working with it all day but still it's better to make some kind of local ventilation box to work projects inside than work without flux. I'm guessing that friend is using some tin with flux and maybe doesn't want to use any more extra (debatable still), but working entirely without flux is inviting lots of problems. Apply flux liberally and then when it all cools down just clean it off.
