Oh so it was a wiiflow update causing blackscreen for sd games on vwii! Man, i thought it was my 128gb sd card. Thank you for the fix, i'll let you know if the latest .dol works as soon as i use my wii u

Edit: Tried it the latest .dol you posted tonight and it works like a charm! No more black screen when loading wii games from sd card

Hey all, so I set up Wiiflow 4-5 years ago and decided to fire it up for the first time in years while quarantining this weekend. Wii and Gamecube games wouldn't load, so I updated to Wiiflow lite. Wii and Gamecube works now, but setting up roms has been a complete pain. Trying to load any rom leads to Wiiflow completely rebooting. I followed the instructions on the thread here, trying to run everything off USB: https://gbatemp.net/threads/wiiflow-lite-setup-full-tutorial.550801/

I figured there was some kind of issue where it was looking for things on SD, so when I copied everything over to SD it worked. I made sure to have all my plugins listed to USB on the ini file and on the settings menu in USB as well, but still nothing. Any suggestions here? Looking forward to getting this up and running. Thanks!

Which roms and emu are you trying to play? mame roms? console emus? retroarch?
Reasons for wiiflow reboot upon launching games may vary.
Check your plugin ini's. Are you sure they point to the right .dol's?

I don't think any of the plugins work off USB, but I've been testing console emulators, specifically just trying to get NES to work and then going from there. I downloaded the danimal master piece pack so I know everything is set up correctly - I copied the Wiiflow folder to both SD and USB as the instructions say to put everything on SD but the roms but I'd rather have all the Wiiflow files on USB.

So when I go into the wiiflow_lite.ini, if I change the structure of everything from SD to USB, the plugins don't work, but when I change it back and run everything off the SD card, it's perfectly fine. I was guessing when I had it setup to run off USB it was trying to find the selected rom on the SD card, but even if everything is set to run off USB and the roms are on the SD card, Wiiflow reboots, so I'm kind of at a loss. It's also weird because the tutorial I mentioned has all the Wiiflow files on SD but the roms on USB, so basically everything I followed led me to believe the setup should work. Is there anything more I need to do than change from SD to USB in the wiiflow_lite.ini file?

Appreciate the help!

Edit: I just had everything set to boot off SD, worked fine, I changed plugins partition from SD to USB within wiiflow, it loaded all my games, then rebooted when trying to load. I feel like there's a specific setting I'm missing here - the structure and files on SD and USB are exactly the same.

Hey all I've been using cfg usb loader for years but as it's kinda dead I've been wanting to move over to wiiflow lite but how easy is it to move.? Do I just stick wiiflow on to my wii start it up and immediately use all my games or do I have to configure a few things to make it work? Also will it see my games on my wbfs HD and sd card.

Check Boot settings in Wiiflow. Check if you're using the correct usb port, and set "SD only" to No.
Apart from wiiflow.ini, you should check the dol path you used in your plugin .ini files.
Did you use a full path? (like usb1:/apps/snes9xgx/boot.dol)

It depends on how much you ask from it. If you're aiming to use it just to play Wii and Gc backups, no particular configuration is needed. If, on the other hand, you wish to use it as a launcher for everything (Nand, Emulators, other apps) you will have to go through some customization.
In the second case, you'd better follow some recent guide, like the one mentioned above.
Or you could try my theme (see sign), it includes a pre-built setup that you can edit to your likings

Hey, just tried updating Wiiflow lite 5.4.0 to the 5.4.2 version on github. Used to work just fine, but now the loader hangs on a black screen with a red dot that flashes on and off. Using the cheat-fixed .dol in this thread didn't fix it, so I'm bringing it up. Going to try to revert the install and see if it works again.

Edit: It did! Don't know what that says about my set-up, though, I'm not sure why the newest version isn't working for me.

Are you using SD or USB? Also, when you install new 5.4.2, are you completely wiping apps/wiiflow folder and replacing with "New" files?
I'm loading off of SD- and that's probably what it is, I'm just dropping the new files onto the old ones rather than deleting them. Don't want to waste time downloading all those banners again lol. I'll see if doing a fresh install would make it work.

Just save all older files in a new folder. Then complete fresh install. I always reuse my wiiflow_lite.ini on every new install.

You shouldn't have to change (delete) anything in root/wiiflow folder unless you use fledge newer platform.ini that goes in root/wiiflow/plugins_data folder.

Finally i was waiting for the devkitpro updated version. Thanks for your troubles.
If you push the fixes into a branch on git i could build it asap if not more burden for you.

released wiiflow v5.4.3 today!

https://github.com/Fledge68/WiiFlow_Lite/releases/tag/v5.4.3

only fixes the cheat menu that was broken in v5.4.2

plus there's two choices for download.
1. the regular wiiflow compiled with devkitppc r30
I'm using devkipro version, no problems so far, except the previous cover bug.
After you downloaded a cover, you have to reboot your Wii, THEN reload cache. Otherwise the cover will not show.

Edit: I also had to overwrite platform.ini with the one included in my theme. Some backgrounds/coverflows (e.g. pc engine, sega genesis, fds) weren't working

in wiiflow_lite.ini under [DEBUG] set sd_write_log=yes. post wiiflow.log here when done.

@fledge68 Ok, I just deleted Mario64 cover for VC and re-downloaded it.
Reloaded cache but no cover shown.
Turned off the Wii
Turned it back on (it autoboots to Wiiflow via Priiloader) and reloaded cache again.
Cover appears.

thank you. it's easy to see that the problem occurs after saving the png file and when wiiflow tries to convert the png to a wfc file.
please try this one with sd_write_log=yes and post the results. this will tell me if you are running out of memory or maybe there's an issue with pngu.
