its nothing to do with laziness-how many teams do you expect them to hav and people need ther holiday breaks-you cant hire just anyone off the street and those in the fanmade community wont be able to keep a secret for mor than 2 minutes even if nintendo offered them 100k a year lol its the big third party support thts the issue- if nintendo had the power of playstn machines and the backing of all sonys big devs theyd be unstopable but nintendo didnt choose tht route and yr gonna be bombarded with inferior ports-so hav both a playstn and a switch if can afford both and just accept what it is
Of course it's lazyness, in the same time on the Gamecube we got 2 new Zelda Entrys 4 Mario Party Games, 1 Mario Kart, 1 Luigis Mansion, 2 Metroid Games. And so on. Don't tell me they don't have the capacity to produce these games.

How many Mario Karts did the other systems have?
Usually it's only one per system, like smash. Like it or not.
How many systems had the Mario Kart of the previous one ported?

But isn't Switch's Mario Kart basically a port with a few bells and whistles?

I mean, it's not an original game for the system, so I can see a new Mario Kart further down the line, but it's way too early, I'd wager. Or the inclusion of a few tracks or characters through DLC.

Who knows? Maybe we will see Sega characters in there, like Smash?

Hmmm to be honest? I think it's necessary to change New Super Mario Bros, I mean the concept has been the same since the DS, but it just won't go in my head how such a probably more easy to produce game is ported. For me who had a Wii U taking 50 or 60€ for the same Game just now with characters to make it easier is more than lazy.

I just don't think a port was necessary and that's more of a sign of lazyness.

I feel the same about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
It's such a great game and I played it for about 80 hours. But yeah... If there won't be a successors, I'll be disappointed.

I agree with the points you made as well on Mario Party although it breaks my heart... I hope we get another one but more like MP 1-8.
Yeah let's see some Skyward Sword ❤️
They tried to change it up with New Super Mario Bros. 2. They just didn't change it in a way that anyone actually liked (at least not that I know of)
New Super Mario Bros. U at least has that cool Van Gogh painting world. It still plays the exact same as all the other ones, but at least they tried something new and unique.

Devs have said that the Switch is very easy to port for, and that they can have a working port within a couple of weeks. I'm sure it takes a lot longer than that when you factor in beta testing to make sure there weren't any bugs introduced. But still, it leaves the developer team free to continue work on whatever new game they were working on while that testing is going on, it doesn't take up much of their time, so it kinda makes sense for them to port every Wii U game they can so that they can be enjoyed by a larger audience. Sucks for us that have a Wii U and actually bought those games though.

Hmmm... It all comes down on how long the switch will survive, I'd say yes if there really is a new revision that's more powerful, and probably a no If not.

you expect to much mate - games are taking longer to make as most are becoming mor bigger and mor detailed and with tht comes mor complexity and im sure other users here can come up with what the switch has had mor of in the same time than the gamecube days as i cant be arsed to look as its pointless lol

For me, they can port every game of the Wii U library why not as long as this doesn't effect the new games being made.

Can you play the campaign with friends?
If yes this could suffice for me.
Nope, pretty sure it's single player only. However, at least it does things differently from a normal NSMB game. The goal is not to defeat Bowser but you're still saving Peach in a way, by rebuilding her castle. And the levels are apparently really well made and show more inventiveness than any NSMB game has.
How many Mario Karts did the other systems have?
Usually it's only one per system, like smash. Like it or not.
We've also never had a port of a Mario Kart game released for a new console before. This is new to all of us. The closest comparison we have is Mario Kart Super Circuit + Mario Kart DS on a DS, or Mario Kart Double Dash + Mario Kart Wii on a WIi or Wii U. Not getting a new Mario Kart exclusive to the Switch is kind of like if Mario Kart DS or Mario Kart Wii were never made and the only Mario Kart game we had to play on those consoles were the last-gen ones.

While that is the way the trend is headed these days, Nintendo don't seem too affected by that. They still make the same sort of small/mid budget games they always have, with that unique Nintendo charm that makes us keep coming back for more. They've showed that you don't need huge budgets or big teams to make great games.

This discussion is kinda useless tho as we're both not developers and can't tell if it's harder or easier.
Let's just say it like this.

Jailbreak it, add homebrew and make it run emulators, then you can make it run stuff like mario kart.

Hello fellow tempers, I thought about my Nintendo Switch today and wanted to talk with you about it.

It's been almost 3 years now since the consoles Release and this are my main critique points:

- Still no new Mario Kart entry. Too lazy to add maybe a Cup or dlcs?
- Still no new Mario Bros entry.
I'm a friend of Ports, but don't tell me they have not enough time to make some fresh maps for new Super Mario Bros Deluxe HD Wii U... Just lazy as fuck Nintendo... Just hire some people from the fanmade games community... It's not like a Zelda where you have to think about a story... For me unacceptable.

Where the fuck is Wind Walker HD and TP HD?
If you port something then the good shit.
- Quality, Bending Switch, Joycon Drift, Scratching Docks (I experienced all of this except the drift)
- No Virtual Console
I don't accept this garbage of games that Nintendo shits out every 2 Months.
And where the fuck are the other consoles, give us atleast N64 and some people probably want some Megadrive too...
- Charging us 2€ every Month for taking a shit on our face.
- Switch Sport anyone?
- A proper Mario Party and not this extremely random tiny board random stars and golden pipe bullshit. The minigames are fine tho.
- No game Invite System or any kind of Social Platform.
- 3 years in, and the only themes we got are Black or White
- How long will we have to wait for another Wario Ware.

As you can see there's in my opinion atleast a ton of things that just bugg me about the Switch that probably won't be solved until it's EOL. At least the majority I guess.
There's only about 2 years and 10 days left (approximately) until we will probably see a new Console.

But there's also much I like about it:
- Labo (Nintendo just being Nintendo and I love it)
- Ring fit adventure, pretty cool.
- Smash Ultimate
- The huge 3rd Party Support is just georgus... Playing Celeste, Isaac or Rocket League on the Switch is a blessing. Witcher, Overwatch etc..
- Zelda BOTW
- MM2 is pretty sick.
- Coop "Virtual Console"
- Portability
- New Metroid (please let it be good)
- Easily Hackable (unpatched units)

I kinda lost all hope for it, maybe the next console gets better... I really don't know what N is doing with all this revenue they get from such a good selling system.
I might have forgotten about some positive and negative things but that's what I was thinking.

Don't forget this is my opinion and it doesn't have to be the same as yours, so there's no need to try and change my mind.

I'm interested in what you think about?
Do you share my view or maybe not at all?
Let's discuss!
I agree so much

But yeah, if we aren't getting a new Mario Kart then at least release 4 more DLC cups, and some more battle tracks. Then we will effectively have two Mario Kart's worth of content.
just one example - wind waker takes around 30 hours and breath of the wild 50 to finish
I don't think that says how much about how long they took to develop although in this case BotW certainly did take ages to develop as it was Nintendo's first attempt at a big, ambitious AAA game. Their other franchises are not much more complex than they were on the N64. The thing that takes longer is creating the assets, especially the textures, because back then they were mostly solid colors. But besides better graphics there isn't really anything fundamentally different about (most of) Nintendo's games these days, and they could have been made for the N64 as well. In fact Kaze Emanuar's Super Mario Odyssey 64 romhack proves that point very well.

They've leaned hard on Wii U ports and expansions dressed up as sequels to get enough of those games out. The budgets and timetables have definitely gone up since the Wii and they only have so many options on Switch because the Wii U failed ahead of it.

Well except gamefreak who are still making 3DS-quality games.

Of course it's lazyness
I think it's more applicable to call a company "cost cutting", "profit maximizing", or generally "cheap". Especially with the software and engineering fields becoming increasingly saturated with potential hires, there's never a shortage of hard-working, talented people. The only factor is money.

Hiring one developer that works to death producing 5 times as much as his average colleague is more cost efficient than hiring 5 average workers. Another cost-efficient strategy is prioritizing making only the smallest batch of games that'll appeal to the widest audience, the lowest common denominator. But this means that we don't get the best products, or rather we don't get the same amount nor the products "risky" enough to deviate into something novel.

The video game industry, like many others, is only growing increasingly cost-cutting and competitive. It's why indie titles have been making a name for themselves. Unfortunately, it costs a lot to support oneself in committing to any project full-time, especially with rising costs of living, so the indie market lacks the depth and polish that bigger established companies can fund.

I don't want to get too political here so I'll leave it to you to recognize the theme.

For me the switch is everything that I always wanted in a handheld console! The original model is a little bigger than what I wouldve wanted but Im still happy with it. The lite is the perfect size but since certain games run considerably better docked, I feel that the original model is a better choice.

However, if I wouldve been unable to use CFW on it, my view would be slightly different. I dont care much for customizations (themes and folders and crap) but there are enough great games on the Switch to keep me going for a several years, provided that the console will last me that long :D It is basically what I wanted the Vita to be... I love playing games handheld (just not mobile gaming).. and the option to play on the big screen is a plus :)

My satisfaction level would be way lower if I hadn't hacked my Switch...
Retroarch is what makes it good for me. That plus a small handful of good games, most of which I could get on other platforms too, tbh.

Edit:
The original Switch is also a bit too heavy and unwieldy for me. It's nowhere as convenient as a handheld as the 3DS or the Vita, or anything else, really.

Give me a hacked Switch Lite and I'll stop complaining, lol.

Same. I vote 50 percent. Too many ported that I already have for PS4. No new sequels for Mario and where is Super Mario 3D world rumour ? I dont have Wii U but wants it on Switch. and many more. I am into AAA 3rd party but they ported few that I already have.. No brand new AAA 3rd party because its underpowered system. Disappointment!
