I may have discovered an eShop exploit. Requires no hacking or anything like that. Works on Wii U and probably 3DS and Switch too. However!

I am loathe to post it publicly. It will be patched instantly. Please contact me if you are an admin here and I will PM you to discuss it!

If I do post it, it will not last long. It is a very easy fix for a ridiculously stupid exploit, and honestly it should never have worked in the first place. It is very, very sloppy and careless behaviour. Therefore I am not posting it publicly for now. But I will... and it will be patched very quickly I'm sure... because of how it works - it will be flagged up immediately.

Ok fair enough. It's not wares but a software exploit for eshop. I'll keep it to myself then, I guess

I really don't think an exploit for getting free games from eshop is useful. If Nintendo finds out how it's done and they can identify who used the exploit, they might just instantly ban them (or even worse, legal action.) You might as well just hack the Wii U and pirate games if you want free games.

The wii u is dead and a flop. Nintendo doesn't ban any players there as long as they don't cheat online. I mean, i play my mario kart 8 and splatoon online on the cemu emulator. They don't care about this console. The worst thing which can happen is this: They release an update which finally makes the freeshop on the consoles (if there was one like on the 3ds) and the usb helper completely unusable. Or haxchi/cbhc are unusable for the moment, as was the case with 3ds with the 11.8 update. Or they change the way it works behind the virtual console so that the games don't load .nds files directly.

Report Nintendo and make a few bucks for yourself.

Not a bad idea honestly, since if it's actually real and it gets released, no one is going to benefit from it much before it gets patched.

It's not just the same "exploit" that Wii U USB Helper (and FreeShop before it) uses, is it?

I'm interrested in this, too.

As the guy above me told: They already did. There was freeshop for the 3DS. They closed the door for the 3DS but the exact same exploit is still possible with the Wii U (and there are a ton of tools available to download Wii U games directly from Nintendo. NUS Downloader to name one). Nintendo simply doesn't care about piracy on the Wii U anymore. That said I don't think they will fix this new exploit for the Wii U, only for 3DS and the Switch.

//EDIT: The reason why I'm interrested in this new exploit is that NUS Downloader & co can't download the decryption key. So you need it from that key site but there are some games with no leaked key. From the sounds of it this new exploit should be able to download the key, too.
@avengah While I'm not affiliated with gbatemp in any way I would love to get a PM.

FreeShop was a homebrew application. This person claimed that it was an exploit within the normal e-Shop app.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

i dont have an sd card adapter but I have an usb sd card adapter
