@Lilith Valentine @sks316 : So Nintendo didn't ban anyone just for installing unlegit CIAs? even with "wrong" tickets? Well... not yet. That could be a good reason to ban someone in the future and I don't wanna take the risk. Nintendo wants developers happy (and makes 1st party games too).

Yeah but nothing actually prevents you from just deleting the wifi settings once you're done with that, and before handing them the console.
So I have to remove the hotspot (in WiFi settings) every single time I finish uploading/updating and reenter the WiFi password every single time I need to join the network... right?

With reading what you have posted and how damn paranoid you are being. At this point. Id say you should probably just go buy the games you want and a new 3ds and forget about cfw.

A few things, this would be an extremely unlikely thing to happen and even if it did, unbanning yourself is well documented and easy to do. Plus, not agreeing to the EULA not using something like ctr-httpwn and keeping your system on an older OFW will not keep you safe either. The second you hacked your system and went online with it was the second you put yourself at risk of getting banned. The only way to completely avoid getting banned is to have not hacked your system in the first place.

@t33st33r I think the worry is a bit silly, because here you want to essentially ban the console yourself by keeping it offline at all costs, in the fear that you would be getting banned from online play, but if being banned from online play matters, it means you care about being able to play online with it.

It's a bit counter-productive, if you want it to be able to play online then just do it, or don't mod the console and get the games legit, if you want to avoid all the risks. Keeping it permanently offline isn't really the solution here.

Last time I searched about unbanning there was not a methot to do it. So now I have searched for information about it and I have noticed that there is a seed you base on to unban it. But... can Nintendo ban common seed consoles in batch mode? If so... that's a problem.
Now that I know I have no way to run ctr-httpwn I changed my mind about upgrading the firmware... I will upgrade it. I mean the one to be upgrading the firmware is me... not my niece. So I will occasionally have to agree the EULA, upgrade and redisagree to hide those annoying upgrade alerts while she uses it.

Being banned from online play doesn't matter right now but probably will in the future if someone wants to sell the console.
Anyways I have to request information about unbanning and how it works. Depending on the safeness of the process (and the post-made) maybe I could consider allowing the console to play online or not. It depends on how easy is to ban consoles that share a common seed.

If I have to wait for a new seed every time Nintendo bans a seed I don't like this choice.

all ninty has to do is put said common seed on ban and every console using that seed is going to get the ban error. its not per console with said seed. its the seed itself. At that point you would need to wait till someone posts a new public seed.

Bans aren't really that common these days and I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a thread about someone who got banned that wasn't something they did. The system has been EOL for quite some time and it's extremely unlikely Nintendo will start banning hackers. Most of their updates have been focused on breaking some of the exploits and only making it slightly harder on us for a few hours.

Last time they did anything to specifically block or prevent exploits was in 11.6 (September 2017), unless you count the anti-piracy server-side changes that happened around 11.8 (July 2018). Any vulnerabilities or entry points since then were essentially left unchallenged (aside from the streetpass thing, but that's different.)

They just don't really care so much anymore, as long as you don't cheat online, or play pirated games online before their release date. They might ban you if you attempted to download something off the eShop using an invalid ticket too, but this is very easily avoided.

The 3DS is essentially done and is in end-of-life maintenance mode these days. The Switch is their main focus.

I've been playing online for years, long before that one banwave, and neither of my 3DSes have gotten banned at any point. This is including homebrew and "borrowed" CIAs.

OK. Now that I know all this information I will think about allowing online play to the console.
One last question: What are online-play requirements? I know EULA has to be agreed but... is there some other requirement like having the FW up to date?

ya. the fw itself needs to be on 11.13 for online use.

The question is if I need to be on latest FW every single time I try to play online. Could someone (in the past) play online (not being tricky) without the need to be on latest FW (on previous versions)?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

What I am worried now is the update alerts. Is there a way to guarantee the console will not annoy with those alerts until the sleep mode is used?

In the past that was used. but was rendered useless. You need to be on latest to go online. Ninty has made it that way. Your console will send a update nag once when ya turn the system on each time until ya update. But as said. there isnt really a reason not to at this point.
