Hi everyone, My son has a patched switch so I bought an unpatched one off ebay. Windows recognises his but not mine, i get this message "the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and windows does not recognise it.
I have tried using different cables but still the same.
When i connect my sons its recognised straight away and shows in rcm mode in tegrarcm gui

Can anybody give me any pointers please?

Can't really think too much right now, but how does windows "recognize" his? As in, just charging? As far as I remember, when I tried doing that (switch-pc), there was a driver issue. I installed new drivers and poof! Maybe try an updated Tegrasmash with .apx drivers?

Have you tried using Rekado?

When I connect my son's in rcm I don't get any issues it shows on tegrarcm GUI it is in rcm mode.
When I then connect my switch I get this message in windows the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and windows does not recognise it.

I've not tried rekado as I just get this message, it's frustrating the computer detects my son's patched switch but not my unlatched one

Maybe....switch your Switch with your kids' Switch?

Maybe you can check/double-check what your serials are because if a seller listed your switch as "Early ser. number", but it isn't, get some ebay protection.

Other than that, maybe let some people take a look at the Switch your son owns--I'm sure some people would love to know how a patched Switch is reading RCM because, as far as I know, patched Switches either need to be in the hands of TX or you've got a factory fuckup and could be sitting on something groundbreaking.

Have a good look inside the USB-C port to make sure no pins are bent or broken as that would certainly cause that issue.

They’re the same as any other Tegra device except they have a patch that adds a packet size limit so they can’t be pwn’d with FG iirc (some earlier patched units have the xUSB fuse blown instead iirc, which makes it use xUSB in RCM which is not impacted by FG)

Forgot that can happen--hopefully OP won't disappear.

xUSB in RCM which is not impacted by FG

"Note that patched units can enter RCM, but it is not possible to send a payload on those systems. Also note that RCM is a different recovery mode than the one accessed by holding Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power."

Well, always good to learn something new; thank you.

Had a look all pins look in place.

Use Zadig to troubleshoot if you can't get it to pick up the driver with Tegrasmash Gui.

I have picked up the driver as i can connect my sons switch so no idea why windows wont recognise mine?

I've not tried rekado as I just get this message

My bad, I had to really, really, think--have you actually tried using rekado with a phone that supports it? I went through a fucked up galaxy 3, fucked up Lg somebullshitfrom2018, and attempted using iphone 6+ before saying, "Fuck it, I have three laptops."

Speaking of which, do you have another laptop/computer?Other than that, maybe call a friend who has a hacked Switch and see if you can do it from their house?

Maybe return it to the seller?

Any idea about this:

I actually bought an rcm loader last night to give it a try mate, I will update the post once it arrives and I give it a try.

I have also tried my MacBook Pro but it doesn't detect the switch either when trying to inject a payload with fusee launcher.
Haven't tried with a phone .

Hopefully, the dongle goes without a problem. Definitely give Rekado a try and if everything else fails, maybe someone on 'temp lives by you and can take a look at the boards if you don't feel too tech-y.

I would say the port is most likely broken

I have gotten that same message with many USB devices over the years and it always spelled doom for whatever device it happened to happen to
