You sound super cool.

and are communicating with me on how to improve it.

You are ignoring the biggest way to improve it. And other ways, including contemporary file types like apng and animated svg. People can 'communicate' with you all they want, doesn't mean anything if you are incapable of implementing any of the features.

You want more file types? Go ask renpytom as he is the one that maintains the engine. If he implements them, I can merge them into my fork.

Could anyone give me an example of a game they've decompiled and got to work? This way I can verify I'm setting up Ren'Py and renpy-switch correctly.

Looking forward to using it. VNs are maximum comfy on a switch.

The Question, included with the Ren'Py distribution, works perfectly fine.

If the game works on Ren'Py 7.3.4, it should also work on this version.

apparently i'm not doing something right.

merging folders: add renpy switch files to "game folder", or add "game folder" to renpy switch? i know that a renpy folder will need to be overwritten, but i need to know which set is the actual necessary one.

does this have to be compiled to the single .nro?

do I have to rename the game files in the main folder to "renpy.py" or can i leave that as is?

the games i use have in the main folder a .py and a .sh, but no .pyo

basically, i need idiot proof instructions please

Use "renpy" folder from "renpy-switch-sdk-vX.7z"

no

no, you do not need to rename anything
the games i use have in the main folder a .py and a .sh, but no .pyo
pyo will be generated when you run the game on the SD filesystem, or when you run "find . -name \*.py -exec python -O -m py_compile {} \;" on a system with Python installed.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

    For your R4
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
