wouldn't this require having to hack it in the first place? i would rather not touch sysnand with any hack. from what i can tell, there's no real reason to touch sysnand anymore. is there any actual benefit to this?
Not necessarily. If you can manually reboot into RCM after installing a system update, then you can theoretically update your console without burning fuses. The procedure is risky because if you fail to boot into RCM then you will burn fuses but it is a 100% guaranteed clean method that technically does not involve any hacks (RCM does not count as a hack since it is a part of the console itself). Here is a tutorial if you wish to attempt this yourself but I only recommend trying it if you have a jig with 100% efficiency.

If you want to hack your switch, you need to make a NAND backup if you want emuMMC. It really doesn't matter what your fw version is if your switch is exploitable. You can use your emuMMC for offline and homebrew eMMC for legit games.

You can use Hekate.

i have a 256gb sd card split into two partitions

partition 1 = 204gb (exfat)
partition 2 = 30.6gb (fat32)

i have booted into hekate 5.0.1 and have created an emummc and that went to an SD partition.
i couldnt choose which partition, just had the option to click continue. it took apporx 15 minutes to complete and was saved in emummc/raw1/nintendo

from this point i then enable emummc by clicking change emummc and then i can only choose SD raw1
i can then launch into emummc and atmosphere.

when i view the contents of the micro sd on my PC, i see that the 30.6 fat32 partition i created for the backup nand is empty and no space being used so 30.6gb free
but then i have the emummc/raw1/nintendo directory on partition 2, however this only shows the contents as being 22mb.

if i look at the free space of either partitions, it would imply i dont have a 30gb nand backup anywhere.

follow this to restore NAND backup: https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/extras/nandrestore/

and this to create an emuMMC:
https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/user_guide/emummc/partitioning_sd/

This is how it should be. The second empty partition is emulating the internal storage. If you can't find the NAND backup in SD:/backup/, retry to make it.

Inject hekate, go to tools, then to backup eMMC. Now back up "eMMC boot0 & boot1" and "eMMC RAW GPP".

Yup, my switch is unpatched (bought on december 2017), for now i don't have any way of entering in RCM mode (i've ordered a RCM Loader ONE kit) so i'm leraning as much as possible to be ready for when i'll get my kit :o
You can enter RCM using something like a paperclip.

thanks.
i did the emmc boot 0 and boot 1 already, just not the emmc raw gpp

thanks
If space or time are problems, you really only need to backup BOOT0, BOOT1, and eMMC SYS for brick-recovery.

What is the best way to setup Emunand, having a switch currently at CFW 8.1.0 (Atmosphere 0.9.3) and clean nand backup OFW 7.0.1. Also I have a 128gb sd card. Should I just Partition de Micro Sd and copy the contents of my Custom Switch directly to the emunand? Also do i need to restore the clean nand to setup the Emunand at first place?

Question about installing Super Smash Bros Ultimate;

I just got my new SD Card formatted FAT32 (32768 allocation size) and everything from the previous card copied over.

I have 23 NSP files total for SSB. Looks like the base game, the v4 update, and 21 add-ons (seems unusually high). Just want to make sure I have the process understood correctly; install the base game first, then the v4 update, and then all 21 add-ons?

Anyone know how to stop games giving you the update software available message.
Quite annoying.

So I set up everything and haven't done much other than set up emuMMC and download RetroArch to mess around with. From here, is playing online on OFW 8.1.0 safe to do, assuming I've set everything up correctly? I want to use emuMMC for homebrew and such and OFW for online play, if possible.

Follow this guide to setup emuNAND. Setup the emuNAND using the SD card you want to use. Don't restore the clean NAND backup to your sysNAND until after you make your emuNAND. After you make your emuNAND, you will move the contents of the /Nintendo/ folder to the appropriate location so it can be read by your emuNAND instead, which should be a copy of your dirty sysNAND as it is now.

That's all correct. Smash also has a lot of DLC. This is approximately correct (I don't remember the exact number).

If your sysNAND is clean (i.e. You have never used hacks with it), then yes, it should be safe to use online play with your sysNAND. Make sure your dirty emuNAND is offline (or you have 90DNS and/or Incognito installed to your emuNAND).

Are the “Switch V2” also hackable?
No. Only the following Switch systems are hackable:
  1. Unpatched systems (this includes all systems sold before July 2018, but they can still be found in stores).
  2. Patched systems on 4.1.0 that have never connected to the internet before
Always check the serial number for an unpatched model before making a purchase.
Patched systems on 5.0.0-7.0.1 might be hackable someday in the distant future as long as they're never updated and never connected to the internet.

How to remove certificate from switch game card(s)? My old Switch is banned, and I dumped my cartridges on my old Switch, so I can use them on the Switch Lite.

I know the process. Only issue is I have a single backup file using exfat. But now my SD card is in fat 32 format. How do I split it into smaller sizes?

Just the man I was hoping to see! Thanks for clarifying. I thought that procedure was right, but I wasn't sure if it was safe to do all those add-ons. About to try it now.
