Hi! Recently Ive been working with a friend to repair a dev unit with an unreleased tech demo. I was wondering, would anyone know how to repair this part of the board or possibly let me know how I could use a replacement board?

^^^In further context, what chip on the 3ds board would allow him to rewrite the nand backup to another board if he replaced it with the original's chip (would it be the nand? or what chip if de- soldered would allow him to rewrite the nand to another not broken board?)

Note: if you look at the full board photo, the broken pin is next to the lower right corner of the cartridge slot. Just for reference

yeah, it would be the CPU, but as mentioned in the previous thread you would be better off not messing around with it and trying to get the game dumped via NTR boothax, desoldering the CPU and transplanting it onto another donor board is not something for a novice to attempt, and even with a fairly good experience in BGA repairs its still not an easy job without a stencil and access to professional equipment, its not a simple TSOP chip your working with here

Sounds good, just thinking of other options in the meantime. They are pretty busy right now so they haven't had time to dump it over the last few days but I assure you I sent him good instructions.

Already gave my input about this:

My thoughts or stance when it comes to NAND image decrypting, cloning, or transferring,

@HudU_ has made threads about this 3DS dev unit:

... I see people like your buddy who hardbrick, lose, or have stolen their 3DS systems enough times that I totally understand what lengths they'll go through to retrieve their stuff. When they do have their backed up NAND images to recovery data from, I'm very reluctant to help clone their NAND setup on a [replacement / target / donor] system because they don't heed the warning about how its suppose to be a temporary session, just long enough to backup their saves, extdata, Friends List, titles into CIAs, etc.

I once helped someone cloned their 3DS to a 2DS. When warning this person about reflashing back the 2DS actual NAND image, I was getting a deaf-tone impression that this person wanted to permanently keep the 3DS setup on the 2DS.
The problem was that the 3DS was no longer in their possession. I feared the buyer of that 3DS got his or her system banned due to that person's negligence. Among several notable NAND files, no two systems should be using the same user profile while connected online.

Then, when I see people clone their NANDs anyway while skipping multiple safety practices, it makes me think that maybe I should write another tutorial about this subject because if you're going to do something bad, you might as well do it right.
