L4T Lakka Switch - now with audio and Vulkan

Lakka Switch, L4T edition
I am proud to finally release the L4T version of Lakka Switch!
New kernel, new logo, new drivers, audio... everything is fresh and clean.

Did I mention Rayman 3 was full speed on Dolphin? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

General system updates
  • New Linux kernel and underlying operating system, based on Linux4Tegra and Jetson Nano drivers
    • mainline kernel has been deprecated
    • system features should now be on par with the L4T Ubuntu distribution, except for dock support
    • Bluetooth was lost in the battle and needs some rest to come back stronger
  • aarch64 is now the default and mainly supported architecture
    • arm has been deprecated since L4T doesn't support it
  • New logo made with the help of jaames and the R:S community
New features and improvements
  • Audio now works through the internal speakers and headphones
  • The new GPU driver supports both Vulkan and OpenGL
  • RAM is now locked at full speed (1600Mhz), was 800MHz before
  • The system is now way more stable and should boot for everyone with a decent SD card (no more black screen of death)
  • RetroArch has been updated to add menu widgets (fancy onscreen notifications)
  • Overclock profiles have been updated :
    • Renamed all profiles
    • Added more overclock profiles
    • Added underclock profiles
New cores
  • mupen64plus-next (N64 emulator)
    • The core is full speed, even on aarch64 thanks to the new dynarec
    • Includes the updated version of the GlideN renderer
  • picodrive (various Sega consoles)
    • The core replaces Genesis Plus GX (Game Gear support has been dropped)
  • Beetle PSX HW (PSX emulator with OpenGL and Vulkan renderer)
    • The core performs worse than PCSX ReARMed for now, even with Vulkan
  • reicast (Dreamcast emulator)
    • The core is full speed on all commercial games, no visual glitches
    • The OIT renderer works (better accuracy), speed is still good on 1x resolution
    • The core needs the Dreamcast BIOS files to be placed in /lakka/storage/system/DC
    • WinCE games are currently not supported - there is a WinCE version of the reicast core in the works but the aarch64 dynarec is too slow for the games to be playable (for now)
  • Yaba Sanshiro (Saturn emulator)
    • The core is full speed on all commercial games
    • Yabause and Kronos were also added but both perform worse than Yaba Sanshiro
  • theodore (Thomson MO/TO emulator)
Updated cores
  • Dolphin : Vulkan support
    • With Vulkan, Dolphin runs decently - some games are playable, some are full speed... see for yourself, try it and experiment with different games and settings!
  • PCSX ReARMed : Switch optimizations and CHD support
  • PPSSPP : doesn't crash anymore when closing content
Removed cores
  • mupen64plus
  • parallel-n64
  • Genesis Plus GX
  • Ishiiruka
    • It might come back once the core is updated with the (beta) Vulkan renderer
Credits
  • Kernel and drivers work: NVIDIA, switchroot team (especially ByLaws and langerhans)
  • Lakka Switch work: natinusala and plaidman
  • RetroArch, original Lakka distribution: libretro team
  • mupen64plus-next: Gillou and m4xw
  • PCSX ReARMed: Switch optimizations by m4xw, CHD support by aliaspider
  • Dolphin core: aliaspider
  • reicast core: flyinghead

Please note that you can't dual boot Ubuntu and Lakka Switch for now (it will always boot Ubuntu).

well its not their software to really share so the developer could get upset with people sending out complied version that havent been properly tested by the developer. I am on the same boat right now but I am just waiting
Maybe I'm dumb, but why would the developer get angry, if the non-compiled code is available on the site, and posted, open to the public, for anybody who understands how to compile this? If they get angry, that's a little... odd, given how they post it publically for everybody. Hope someone will send a build, cause there are at least 3 or 4 who say they've got it in this thread. I wouldn't see the issue with sharing something that's publically made available.

untest software always runs the risk of bricking systems. so you can get a complied version from someone else that could brick your system. then go around a try to blame the developer who really had nothing to do with the version

Well if that's what hes saying, that's kind of an ass thing to say. "Do it yourself", when you simply ask, is not only incredibly rude, but really childish and stupid. If I understood anything about this, I'd do it myself. Theres nothing wrong with asking. And I figure that since people already have a compiled build, what harm would asking do? None at all.
The developers don’t like it when people put out potentially unstable builds, because then people will start complaining about stabiliy issues and asking for support for said unstable builds. They’re fine with users compiling builds on their own builds, but they will not receive support if they run into issues

Have been using this for a while and am overall satisfied with it. Except for one thing. The brightness resets each time I relaunch the OS.
How can I fix it?

Pretty sure the brightness resets each time, it may be possible to set manually if you open the retroarch.cfg file on the SD card and edit. If the blue screen bothers you because of brightness, if you go to user interface/views or appearance(if i remember correctly) their is an option to change the background colour and theme. I have mine set to black, firstly because its probably more battery efficient and also it comes across less bright. This isn’t a wallpaper, you dont need to download anything to select this as an option.

Thanks!
I'll get used to it and turn down the brightness each time I load the OS.
By the way, switched to the horizon os GUI.
I simply love they way how it looks and resembles the switch's os.
I'd rather pick this one over the flashy overloaded xmb.
Simplicity suffices sometimes.

Its necessary for reicast to NOT use vulkan (us gl) and to turn off threaded video, make sure to do this or roms wont load, you will either see "failed to load content" or it will throw you back straight to lakka xmb if you have vulkan and threaded video on.

So many people coming to discord and here with a problem like this...

Thanks a million! And thanks Google for finding your post

Is there a new games compatibility list? The older website for Lakka.tv had one. I can't seem to find one on the newer website. Also the list of consoles it supported in the FAQ are gone/missing as well.

Guys I'm using this and I'm really enjoying it, but I have a question. Everytime I play with Lakka and the battery goes down, i have to shutdown, change sd and charge by dock. Isn't there a way to charge the battery via Lakka instead of my actual method?

Okay, I'm new to Lakka. So please bear with me. I have a few questions before I start using this.

1. The battery bug. It says to use Hekake 3.0 for the fix. Is it only with 3.0? Or can you use the latest version? How would I apply it?

2. I'm sort of confused on how I would shut down the system properly. Can someone please explain to me simply? (I'm a dummy, I know. T.T)

3. There is no third question for now. I have the habit of saying few instead of couple. :3

Just use the latest Hekate and you wont have any issues with the baterry.
To shut it down properly, Hold down the power button for 12 seconds or reboot to RCM, inject hekate and shut it down from there.

1. The battery bug was fixed like a year ago. But if you do run a ancient version of Switch linux for whatever reason, recent versions of hekate automatically run the fix whenever you load them.

2. Reboot to RCM, then hold the power button for ~12 seconds

Thanks for the answers. Playing some Mario Sunshine right now. Minor FPS issues but hopefully improve in the future. :3
