from what ive read, you dont even need a new ps4 just a new hard drive and system recovery pup.
maybe thats misinformation though and sony makes changes to chips on the motherboard in new firmware.

Well if you upgrade the firmware then you can't go back to 5.05, even with new HDD and recovery pup, firmware data is store on the system nand.

that would be a bit like locking your house door and hiding an extra key under a mat on the porch. lol tbh, sony's security kinda sucks: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/is-the-ps4-jailbreaking-scene-definitely-dead.24803/#post-190856 (my post). just because no public exploit has been released means nothing about how secure the system really is. if you've ever watched the fail0verflow presentation, they didn't start trying to hack the system 'til other os was removed. and, according to geohot, the system was actually hacked in less than five weeks.

I sold mine on EBay for a good chunk of money ($400), and waiting till PS5 announcement. Pretty sure the scene will be more active than now. (Also get a Switch as it’s wide open atm before a new hardware revision)

i have checked out the ps4 homebrew community and there isn't alot to do and it seems like sony is probably not going to patch the bug anytime soon so that a new exploit can be relased, so i wonder should i stick to 5.05 or upgrade?

Up to you. I am staying with 5.05 since I updated from 2.57. They will release it and you will be regret if you update to the latest and wont be able to jailbreak at all. Dont lose your faith or we will say "We told you so".

Thats not smart things to do. You should wait until Sony say anything about PS5 with PS4 backward first. I wont sell mine until I am absolutely sure about PS5 with PS4 backward and what they have in up their shelves. That's why I am waiting much longer. Doesn't matter. I am not in the hurry. PS5 is away from now.. Even into 2020 of April or November.

ok i will just keep at the 5.05 fw, but i think that sony knows about them needing to patch the bug so we can get the hack and it seems they're not patching it so far, but other than that i will be patient and wait for the exploit :).

Since I have a 2nd ps4 for JB my pro is going to get updated among the 7 Remake release date. I was willing to play KH3 on the xbox1 and thank god it was the right decision since it wasn't too great of a game we hoped for.

It's really debatable, if a single ps4 is your only/best option for current games and online functionality, and that is what your interested in no amount of old games on a hacked system is really going to do it for you.

Personally I think xbox and pc has better deals, and online functionality, so the money saved on those old ps4 games is put towards those other platforms, and waiting on an exploit isn't such a big deal for me, but I could see where someone with limited options, and no interest in modding or archiving games would rather update.

i have a 1.75 fw original ps4, i know ill have to update to 1.76 fw for hacks but im curious as to if there is any reason to stick to 1.76 vs 5.05. i have another launch day ps4 on current fw and i have no intrest in ps4 games piracy, i have more games than i can play as is, so my main goal is n64 on ps4, how is that vs just using a laptop on windows 7?

going to stay on 5.05 and wait.there will be a higher kex sooner or later.worst case scenario i buy a ps5 and play the 5.05+ games i missed since it's likely to be backwards compatible

as far as i can tell there is no difference other than playing higher firmware games

Well you could always sell the 5.05 ps4 to buy a switch. Honestly the switch and PC are your best options for both erm.. piracy & emulation.
luckily i got both of those, so if the hax happened to never get released then i might sell it, other than that i will wait :)

I decided to sell my ps4 pro on 5.05 because the scene has slowed down. Nothing interesting is happening & ps2 emulation can only progress when more emus are dumped.

To me that question has always been easy. There are so many amazing games to play on 5.05. But then again, PS4 is the first console I got since the first Playstation which means I've got a massive backlog and I am really interested in more obscure/non-AAA exclusives as well i.e Furi, Danganronpa,What Remains of Edith Finch, The 25th Ward: The Silver Case to name just a few.
