Hardware No HDMI output when docked, okay as a handheld

Hope you will be able to solve the issue, I have the same Problem with one of my switches. It wasnt turning on at first because it had a short on the Board. The Pl3USB was gone, so i replaced it with a new one which solved the short and made the switch turn on. Now everything works fine with the Switch in handheld.
But docking it gives the same result as yours, The switch Charges, the screen goes off when docked but it does not display anything to the TV.

The fault still has to be somewhere around the that Chip. I was speculating that maybe i didnt solder all pins on correctly but after reading this thread i doubt it now.

Would love it if you could keep us updated on this one!

I still haven't had the time to properly look into this again, hopefully in the next few days though. If one of us finds the cause it will perhaps help the other, so please also update here if you find anything.

The Switch which worked perfectly after bridging the burned coil mentioned in my earlier post now stopped working altogether; not charging, no power even after charging the battery in another Switch.
Some capacitors are now shorted also; one near M92T36 and one near BQ24193. Going to investigate further and will report when there's anyting worth reporting.

Alright i have rechecked my board and compared to a second board i have here.

I noticed that one of the pin pads on the the PI3USB has blown off.
i added a picture and marked it with the the red arrow which pin I am talking about, Its trace goes to the filter on the right end.

I was pretty sure that would be the cause for my Problem, but oddly when checking the other Board i have laying around here it has the exact same thing, the exact same pin pad is gone.
Now im not sure if that pad is actually missing in some european versions of the Switch right out the Box or if its just some weird coincidence that both boards look the same.

Anyway, i do have some experience in switching such micro chips but if its really the missing pads fault than i think i wont be able to fix this as i dont think im skilled enough to make a jumper there.

They are ferrite chokes (or filters).

They should be fitted.

@sharaku17 : I have a European Switch and checked that pin but here it's connected. The defective coil in my Switch was
oddly enough connected to that pin and the outer one next to it. The blown portion was the outermost of the two sides
though.

As for the progress on my defective Switch:

I replaced M92T36 and the Switch is working and charging again. HDMI output when docked is still troublesome though;

-most of the time, when placing the running Switch in the dock, there is no output to HDMI.
-I do get output by powering off the Switch, starting in RCM mode and injecting payload. When Atmosphere is starting, I
can dock the Switch and it will output in Horizon as it should.
-Another time, the Switch only had 'automatic' and '480p' as display options and would not display anything higher than
that.

To be clear; the Switch did not output anything at all earlier so I bridged a coil between PI3USB and the USB C because it
did not show continuity. USB C port has been replaced, working well with charging, data transfer, injecting payloads.

I suspect an IC is the culprit (PI3USB perhaps, being the closest to the defective coil) but does anyone have any pointers
as to which one could cause this behaviour? Or, if another component is more likely to be at fault?

I haven't yet determined the cause of the lack of HDMI output on the Switch that I initially started this thread about, however I have just encountered another Switch with the same problem and on this one the cause WAS one of the filters near the P13USB chip (that's not though the case with the other Switch).

@WadsRUs Good to hear you managed to fix the other Switch!

I managed to fix mine by replacing M92T36 with another one. The one I previously installed was probably faulty or I might have incorrectly installed it the first time.
The Switch works perfectly again; no more weird behaviour with the HDMI connection and charging properly.

As far as I can tell the original USB C port had some minor damage which could have caused the broken filter and also might had damaged M92T36.

Repairing the filter, replacing the USB C and M92T36 was the solution in my case.

Apparently, I do seem to have the same problem here. And it happened just today.

My Switch seems to charge fine (solid green light) on the dock, and I can have an image on HDMI for a few seconds/minutes, until the screen goes into a "no signal" mode.
The USB-C looks OK though. I can also load a payload to the console just fine. Also, I can use it perfectly fine as a handheld console though. Just not as a home console anymore...

I thought it was my Dock, but my other retail Switch (Day one) doesn't have that problem at all. I can use the HDMI for hours if I want to. Just not that Switch at all.

Switch is playing handheld well but still 2 symptoms i can't explain :
1. switch only can get charged with only one side of the usb-c connector of my External charger (charger working both sides with other switches)
2. No hdmi signal when connected to moov hdmi dock (working great with other switches). Switch screen turns off when plugged but no signal.
Pi3usb looks good and perfectly fit. No suspect ground on pins.

Usual suspects... Check Panasonic / Murata filters under pi3usb. Should bell out at both ends (check each side) as they are basically wire-wound inductors
Check decoupling caps inbetween filters and pi3usb
reflow USB port. All pins should be connected.
Check filter caps on all V+ lines on pi3USB

Double check your soldering on the M92t36 either reflow with hot air or run around it with a soldering iron to make sure pins 11,12,13 have been soldered properly.

I have two switches with this issue. One has not HDMI output, the other one randomly works. I have read somewhere that the issue happens with samsung smart TVs.

Having the same problem, the Switch was working just fine on my TV (Sony) and my brother's TV (LG) but now my console is not showing any image when docked, everything else works fine.

I tried 2 docks and none worked, my brother's Switch only gives signal on my dock. Apparently his Diablo 3 dock is broken now.

I hate playing in handheld mode xD I'm mostly a TV player hehe.

I replaced the USB-C port and PIUSB chip which allowed the broken switch to charge and turn on and play in handheld mode however it doesn't dock similar to the issue you guys have gotten. I noticed one of the pin pads on the PI3USB has blown off but i think i have successfully made a jumper from the pin of the chip to the required filter(?) below the chip.

Another problem with the switch i have currently is that when plugged into the computer, it charges but the computer does not recognize that anything is connected.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem, with blown pad, had to re-flow PI3USB twice to make it work, make sure all coils are good and dons't have short between lines, and check resistors near by.

Thanks for the tips, i'll check the coils and the resistors nearby. Also did you have to make a jump from the blown pad to the filter/coil (dunno what it is called)?

Yes, i placed chip first and then throw the wire, chip has pads on the side you can solder in.

hi @WadsRUs i have the same problem

I have two 2017 switch models. (no cfw of any sort)

One comes with all its accessories including the dock and is on 3.0.1. It works and output video through dock fine

The other switch is on 3.0.0 and consists of the tablet and joycon only. But the issue is that it does not output video through the same dock.

I have tried to reintialize it but it still does not output video.

the dock works fine. the charger works fine as well, hdmi cable works fine (all original nintendo)

i used a magnifying glass and found some pins bent and straightened them out (the rapid blinking green light of the dock has been now corrected)

Usb c works double sided in case of charging (in case one side goes wrong). Is it same with video output???

i also noticed that the usb c port on the normal switch has no holes inside both the parallel walls of usb c port unlike the damaged one.

Any help would be appreciated.
