Do I only need to overwrite the szs files once to start getting the animations with the animated themes? All the szs files are named the same but are different sizes. Please help.

Depends on which theme did you download, before official animations support some were distributed as nxtheme + szs to be used together, you had to copy the szs to the systemData folder of the installer and then install the nxtheme, once installed you had to extract the home menu again or else themes installed in the future would be broken. Now with official support you just need to install an nxtheme. If you changed manually the systemData folder in the past you should extract the home menu again

Been trying to get jbj's themes to animate. The Drop, Minimal Grey Glass, Sekiro, Back To The Future, Bebop animated themes. Only one I've got to work is the new one he released that doesn't need szs to animate. Each theme download has the nxtheme files and szs files which are different sizes. It seems I wouldn't be able to store the szs files in the same folder because they would always need to overwritten depending on what theme I was trying to use. Is this correct?

Tried and failed.... was only a fairly basic theme, will have to wait until the original creator of the theme updates their theme for 8.0.1....... Unless.... Long shot, but would anybody be prepared to convert the one theme for me please ???

Yes, you must copy the szs for the theme you want to install to the systemData folder one at a time, guess this isn't really a good design but now it's not needed anymore. Also as you use an szs from a specific firmware most likely they won't work on 8.x

Which theme is that ? Also remove the attachment, there's a bunch of stuff other than the theme

Thanks for all the info, I've deleted the attachment

The theme was from a set labeled [SX OS Themes] Black and Blue, Black and Red & Black and Green - the one I was using was the Black and Red version

It was a very basic theme but was one that I liked a lot

Perhaps I'll have to look for something else

I guess you could extract the image and use it with a compatible layout, was the original file an nxtheme ? EDIT: apparently it is, you can follow the same steps to extract the layout in the link i posted earlier but get the image.dds file instead of the layout

Do you think the latest szs files will work with most of the themes not on 8.x?

Idk, haven't tried. Last time i tried was with szs files from 5 and 6 and no they aren't compatible.
Still now animations are supported in nxthemes and that was pretty much the only reason to post szs files.

Hey guys, is it possible to convert an old theme to a new format if I only have the .szs files?

I can´t remember where I got my theme from, and it´s not compatible with the newer firmware anymore, could you help me out?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Never mind, I found the background image somewhere and created a new one^^

About nxtheme file format, since it is firmware-independent, will it still cause the crashes issues on boot when you update your firmware?

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

    not really

It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament

maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
