Stealth, of Sonic Mania fame, attempted to pitch a Darkwing Duck game to Capcom, was turned down

Headcannon Games, known for their work on Sonic Mania, recently revealed a demo for a game they had been working on. The game was a spiritual successor to the Capcom developed Darkwing Duck game on NES, and would feature bosses from the Disney cartoon. It was pitched to Capcom sometime recently, but it wasn't picked up by the company. A 5-minute video of the game was uploaded to YouTube by Stealth, showing off what the game might have been like. A playable version of the demo was also put on Heacannon's official site, for fans to download for themselves. Aaron Sparrow, writer for Darkwing Duck worked alongside Disney comic artist James Silvani for the sprite art in the demo, and there were plans to have voice acting from the original show's cast as well. If you want to get dangerous, the download link is below.

OMFG!! I want that game!! I'm a HUUUUGE Darkwing fan (I still buy any merchandise that comes out...comics, action figures, etc). I hope we see DW return at some point (new TV show, games, etc).

I guess Capcom don't want boat loads of money. That or the licensing with disney would cost them to much.

Ugh, I would LOVE for this to happen, similarly to how they remastered Ducktails years ago. Sadly, Darkwing Duck is to irrelevant to today's youth which is likely why Capcom didn't pick it up. I would be happy if they would port the Ducktails remaster to Switch at least. That port was phenomenal.

Hmmm.. MalwareBytes is flagging this DarkWing.zip file as containing malware (MachineLearning/Anomalous.100%) Might be false positive?

edit: Might just be the packer that they used. I'm seeing Enigma packer as generating false pos'

The new DuckTales show is pretty good and my two sons (6 and 9) love it. They also both love Darkwing Duck (thanks to dad having all of the dvd's) and we all want a new DW cartoon. There was an episode on the new DuckTales show that featured Darkwing Duck (as a tv show). It was really cool seeing DW back in action (even though it was a brief scene on their tv set. :)

That's awesome. I forgot they rebooted DuckTales (thanks for correcting that SP for me too haha). Maybe one day Darkwing will be back. Loved that show and the NES game growing up.

If you were a fan of the old DT you should check it out. The animation is different (modern) but the show is really well done. David Tennant voices Scrooge McDuck and he's awesome!! The second season started recently but I haven't watched it yet. The first season is definitely worth watching!!

Well the original game was a Megamqn clone and quite blatantly so. But there is no reason they can't make a less Megaman like game instead. Something like Donald in Maui Mallard but with the option to buy weapons and upgrades would work just fine.

didn't stop them in the past they developed all of disneys games for the nes/snes era. these days unless they can cram their shitty games full of micro$ they don't care.

I do not see where it says that Capcom denied this project. From what I am hearing it was a random Disney representative that said Disney might not be interested.

Perhaps they would be more interested if they pitch a ducktales game first with that art style to fit the reboot. But personally, I absolutely love darkwing duck a lot more than ducktales and I hope that Disney becomes interested in it now

Why was this pitched to capcom rather than disney anyway?

Exactly, why bring it to Capcom in the first place, literally makes no sense. It's not like they OWN the IP... **confused** :wtf:

Because Disney Interactive wasn't a thing when those games were developed. Then other companies wanted a some of that money Capcom was banking during the time Disney was handing out licences out cheap.

That's why you see Virgin Interactive, Sega and other companies developing Disney games in the early to mid 90s and less from Capcom during that time (it wasn't as profitable anymore).

And Disney wanted more creative control, something Capcom probably didn't want to allow back then.
