Hacking How hard is modding a ps3?

I just recently soft modded my wii and thought of doing my ps3 depending on how hard it is.

I have a cech 3001a ps3.

The process itself is very straightforward. Finding current and accurate information on what to do afterwards is the hard part.

I have version 4.83 apparently it updated last I turned it on.... is this an issue ?

4.83 now so you cant do much. I believe Pexploit might still work on 4.83ofw.

Sell it and use the income to buy one on a lower version (preferably any phat, or a 20xx or 21xx slim - these are guaranteed fully moddable on any version, and fully moddable for free on 4.82)

Any idea on prices i should look for ? Honestly it has been YEARS since I bought my ps3.

If could let me know about the exploit do able with this firmware would be appreciated.

I found a CECHG01 for 90 obo. 4.82 firm local
A super slim 500gb 4001-c 4.81 firm 80 local at a pawn shop but i dont think these are compatable from my glancing.

I would like for under 90 or so obviously so why I still looking even though I found the local one for 90 thats correct model and firmware.

Don't feel too bad. I goofed up and updated my HAN-enabled PS3, and can't use HAN anymore. (Only used it to inject a few PS2 games.)

im glad it was super easy to do. been modding systems since psx and this by far was the easiest system to mod.

I bought the used 80gb since it was price I could sell mine for. Do I need to update the mods when I get it?

I probably going to put a bigger hdd in it eventually what would be the best process ? Would a back up be the thing to do for it or what?
It will be after christmas before I get the ps3 so I'm going a bit blind on what I will have to do.

i had the 40gb spiderman bundle and right after i modded it i backed it up and put in a larger hard drive. was super easy to restore it since the backup was small, like 8gb.

I wasn't sure if the mods got backed up with that tool.
