You are on borrowed time noobstop. I cant wait till you no longer exist.
They could use it for collecting some RCM vulnerable models. But its only for 1 month.

Actual Article here

Seems to me like they're just trying to more easily make a buck off people who are whores for limited edition consoles.

Yeah.. I think this is just more GS greed, instead of some grand conspiracy. Heck.. With the Pokemon and Diablo3 special editions coming out, I know several non-hackers who will jump at this chance, just because they like those designs.

I'm not seeing any indication that this is geared towards "collecting exploitable consoles". I see it more as a money grab aimed at people with way too much money or just plain idiotic. This would be more sensible if they were trading in for a Nintendo SwitchXL or other type of upgrade.

A switch xl probably wouldn't be portable.
Back on topic, I was confused reading title, then read article and was not confused as much anymore

They're not collecting them for nintendo, they're collecting them for themselves. Trade ins are subject to manager's approval. I'm sure he's checking to see which are exploitable just as an added bonus. The more exploitable switches they can have in stock the better the sales will be in the long run when more and more people start trying to hack their consoles and learn they need to have a specific older model. Which is when buying a used switch from gamestop will come to their mind and they'll happily pay 275 dollars for it. At least this is my conspiracy theory. :P

If they resell banned consoles without knowing it imagine the rage when people buy them and can't use them

No way in hell I would buy a gamestop system. I couldn't tell you how many gamestop 360's customers brought me with shitty rrod fixes and ps3's packed with thermal paste like they used a whole damn tube. Whoever does their repairs should be fired.
