Okay I am trying this both on sx 1.6 and 2.0.1 and no luck. I get an error booting the nsp file but the nro I can get to load but it won’t see any cores or ROMs. Anyone ever encounter this? I formatted my card on my switch and I just put the files on the card using my Mac, but I wouldn’t think that would make a difference just dragging and dropping files.

Hello,
I think I'm facing the problem

I've a Switch under the 6.0.1 version
and I've SX OS 2.0.1
I've got a Sandisk 128go ExtFat sd card

ISSUE :

My issue is that I am able to launch RetroArch 1.7.5 with success
BUT it's start saying 'RetroArch 1.7.5 - No Core'

DETAILS :

When I select, 'Load Core' menu -> No Core is listed
When I under Parameters > Directories : when I want to change a directory only the Nintendo folder is listed, it doesn't list retroarch folder or my switch folder for instance. As if, the sd card was there...
Weird thing, when I select 'Load content' > Only Nintendo folder is listed
BUT if I put 'Show Hidden files" to ON, I can finally see all my folders and files of my sd card

WHAT I'VE DONE :

I launch RetroArch directly with SX Homebrew launcher (under album menu)
I've tried to launch it with hbmenu (Holding R + album), but it says no homebrew is present inside my 'switch' folder
I've tried NSP RetroArch version, but same issue, it starts with 'RetroArch 1.7.5 - No Core'
I've set all my files/folder from my sd card as NOT HIDDEN with my computer but same problem

WEIRD THINGS :

I'm new in Switch hack, so I don't know if I've done something bad but
I think I am unable to load Homebrew with SX OS Homebrew launcher (from the album) if I put my NRO under the 'switch' folder
I ve to put them directly inside the ROOT folder of my sd card (this issue can explain why hbmenu is unable to see my homebrew tat are inside the 'switch' folder)
I've tried to copy / paste all the retroarch folder inside the Nintendo folder :) but its not listed by Retroarch browser (sigh)

So, I don't know what to do, maybe I'm going to test standalone emulator to see if sd card is well read

Would be cool if someone can tell me what is wrong with my set up

Honestly, the first thing you should do is format your SD to Fat32. I'm sure you've read that 1000x times and think you don't need to, I never had major issues with ExFat, only minor, stupid ones. But after going to Fat32, no issues.
I'd recommend updating sxos, as I'm on 2.2 and it's been working flawless.
If you choose to format to Fat32, do a fresh install of Retroarch onto your SD as well, don't reuse old files.

Here are two likely scenarios for "I'm very good with tech, I use me smartphone all the time" youth, that are entirely plausible here (even probable), that make this all your fault, and only yours to solve:

1. You bought your sdcard from ebay, an amazon store vendor (as in not amazon), or your trusty guy from round the corner. He probably sold it to you overprovisioned. It says 256GB, its actually only 8GB, at 8,0001 GB the card starts to overwrite itself - tough luck. (There are programs to check for the actual size, maybe someone can link you one.)

2. Exfat. As stated above - exfat and emulator usage leads to file system corruption. We only stated about 70 times that you have to use fat32 if you are using retroarch, you didnt listen - we've stated about five times, that support ends at "I'm using exfat", because we simply cant rule out your entire data being corrupted at this point. Non recoverable, start over (fat32 32k clustersize). Reason for this happening is Nintendos exfat driver, exfat only having one file table, and pressing the home button crash-exiting all apps, if they crash while writing to the sd (a thing normal games dont do) you're borked.

In both those cases support is: "Grow a brain and some eyes, start reading" - sorry totally out of friendly neighborhood geeks to solve your computer problem. gbatemp is not even the app for that.

To the guy thats on macos - macos by default sets a flag to folders that make them unreadable by the switchos. Either fix via command line (use search), or via the hekate payload (or use ftp to set things up):
The next version of Hekate payload (3.1) will have an option to clean the archive bit from the /switch folder. I've compiled it and it seems to work.

Or even - use a PC to set up your sdcard.

Also - if this were Jeopardy - this
Retro arch, exfat and sxos
Would be "three things that dont go together at all for 100".

Retroarch should not be used with exfat
Most of us hate SXOS and wont support you with support for those folks anyhow, you are better off not mentioning that, and hope that we arent noticing (we usually arent, because most CFWs capabilities are the same at this point).

Using retroarch with a exfat will corrupt your sd card. I recommend only using it with fat32. I had to reformat and start over twice before I found that out.

So how are you guys putting nsp and xci flies on your card since fat32 has a file limit size?
On a Mac......
https://gbatemp.net/threads/legal-nsp-splitter-for-fat32.520213/ to split nsp. There are numerous xci splitters that work if you want to run the xci from sx os - the native Mac app I have on my computer for that is called XCICutter, I haven't looked for one more recently because I use nsp. If you want to split the xci to install it with one of the xci installers, it apparently needs to be split differently and I don't know what tool does it.

Personally I have been using DZ to install nsp over wifi. I did one install with the usb-fix build of tinfoil, and I'm intending to use DZ's new usb install feature in future (these install over usb cable from your computer, not from a usb disk).
