Kingdom Hearts is no stranger to HD re-releases. Starting with Kingdom Hearts 1.5 for PlayStation 3 in 2013, almost every game in the series has been playable in HD on either the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3.

Today, Square-Enix announced a new HD Kingdom Hearts collection; Kingdom Hearts -The Story So Far-. This game is the combination of both Kingdom Hearts titles already available on PlayStation 4.

In KINGDOM HEARTS - The Story So Far -, Keyblade wielders can relive the magical adventures of Sora, Donald Duck, Goofy and friends as they attempt to stop the Heartless invasion that threatens their universe. Fans will travel to iconic Disney worlds and join forces with beloved Disney and FINAL FANTASY® characters in order to fight back against the threat of darkness and bring back light to all worlds.

The compilation includes the following games:
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD Remastered cinematics)
  • KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep Final MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded (HD Remastered cinematics)
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–
  • KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover (movie)

Kingdom Hearts -The Story So Far- will release on October 30th. The box will contain two discs, one for Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5, and one for Kingdom Hearts 2.8. Currently, it is only planned to release in the US.

Typical Squeenix.

But I'm fine with that. It's nice to have all of them together to catch up (or refresh the good old memories) until Feb next year.

Seems a bit weird to release this now, especially with KH3 on the horizon and this basically just being a combination of the two compilation games already on the PS4. Still, I'd imagine it'd be convenient for people who want to get into the series in the future.

Also, "The Story So Far" is a refreshingly basic title, especially given the titles of most of the games in the series.

Talk about a cashgrab. Was this really needed?
I think so...I was talking about playing them and where to start and what collection had what games, this is awesome for me, I only played the 1st one on PS2 and $40 is a steal for so many games.

Both? So it's just KH 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 or only 1.5 and 2.5?

1.5 + 2.5 and 2.8. Both.

But they were already all on PS4 anyway.

I bought 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 already so not for me.
Still haven't even played them yet.
If KH3 ever releases then this would be nice for newcomers

As the franchise has been around for over a decade and a half, it's reasonable to assume that there are a lot of people relatively new to gaming that may never have had the chance to play a KH game before. With the new game due soon, a collection like this gives people an easy way to experience the preceding titles - and subsequently makes the new game less off-putting to some of the would-be consumers.

I only ever played the first title on PS2 ...if I thought I'd have the time to play through all of them, I'd do it via this collection rather than any previous releases.

I'm such a big big KH fan but now they're really milking that tit dry till powder is all you get. There's no point whatsoever for this release

Not sure what people are complaining about. They bundled the two current PS4 collections into a single game. If you've already played both, then you're missing nothing. If you haven't, then you get to save $30~.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
