Hacking Activated PS4 Profile.

I just realized something, I have a backup of my app.db. I ran stooges lasted DB SG backup before I did the profile restore. So I should just need to use the FTP + RW to copy that back onto the PS4. I think I will grab a copy of the one that is there now, so that I can compare it to my old one and deconstruct the format and changes. Some of them I would like to keep (eventually).

you may have a problem. at least with the vita db, using sqlite browser 3, it doesn't like cells being deleted, so it may not allow that.

well, I did and I didn't. I replaced the app.db, but not the addcont.db that was also in the backup. When I went back to the PS4 there was an error on the screen "Your database is corrupt, we will now reboot" or something like that. At first I thought it was because I swapped out the app.db while it was running, but when it came back up it went through a Database Rebuild process, after which I had all of my old icons back, including the Library. But the background was still the dark one with "stars", which I actually liked. For now I am good

The other odd thing is that the OMSK Demon and UI Mods icons/apps were gone. They also were not in the Library either.

well, that's one way of undoing the app.db. lol I think location is listed in the appinfo table on the ps4, but I'm not really sure. there's a combination of user and sys_ex folders being used to build the database, so the default icons were probably scanned, then readded to the appmeta, when it rebuilt your database. the appmeta isn't encrypted, so you can freely replace files which I think is what extrememodding did. however, it's odd that it would be carried over unless the database is not rebuilt upon a backup restore.

On oddity, that may be related to the corrupting/rebuild of the app.db, is that the native backups are huge now. I installed a couple of games, played through enough to create a save, then went to do the backup, to see how well it worked. I unchecked all applications and only selected config and saves and it came out to 14 GB (even though config + saves said less than 100 MB combined). So maybe there are some apps lingering from the old profile that I need to somehow clear out.

I am going to see if I can find them using debug settings -> game -> destroy package (I think is the menu title). To see if it can see any packages other than the games that I installed.

If not, then I will try the latest PS4 DB Rebuilder that is suppsoed to "recover" fpkg installed games that a native db rebuild may have removed. Then if it restores those other apps, I hope to be able to uninstall/remove them.

Any suggestions/advice?

Maybe you can find a way for us to use our own name or ID instead of Activated? I have 2 PS4's both using this Activation ID and for whatever reason, one ps4's saves to usb are recognized by save wizard and the other ps4's saves in usb or not. I'm guessing because the ID's are the same?

Strange but either way good luck dismantling this.

That is interesting. I also have save wizard and it did not find any saves in that 14 GB export. I thought it was just some odd behavior, but now I am beginning to wonder....

I likely will not be able to work on this until the weekend sometime, possibly next week because my PC is on the opposite end of the house from the PS4, and the DB Rebuilder is a python script that must be run from the PC w/ FTP running on the PS4, and I use an ESP to setup a wifi node when I connect to the PS4, but that requires me to move the PS4 close enough to the PC that both can connect to the ESP and also to a place where I have a TV to connect the PS4 to. In other words a PITA .

What if we just delete the app.db? Will it be rebuilt by itself and works normal again w/o the customization if we don't care about the old stuff? Or we can only replace it?

I finally got around to using the db rebuilder (also linked in the first post of Kiwi's tutorial) and it worked great. It ran in seconds and when done I had the SNES Station app again, which I left for now (some old school games I may check out later). And when I went to do the backup I could select just the game saves I wanted and back up only a few MB (not a few GB). PS4 Save Wizard was also able to recognize these game saves and import the profile (for future re-signs). I played around a little with the save backups from Stooged's backup that I ran before I "restored" the activated profile and the files look almost identical, although I still could not get the save wizard to recognize them (when placed in the correct folder structure). Although I did swap a couple of them around from one back up to the other and the save wizard must have cached something as it reported the old backups as being from the activated profile (or I goofed and swapped the wrong files in). I am going to play around with that later this week and see what I can get for restoring the save.

I strongly recommend trying to do a backup (to usb) afterwards to see if you have the issues that I did. and if so, just use the db rebuilder script. If not then your method sounds like it would be a much better option than how I muddled through it

As far as I know, the saves are linked and crypted to your previous account. You can convert it with save wizard only if it was saves from a PSN account, it won't work with the local account. Sorry

You needed to back them up via usb, it’s was a vicious circle as you couldn’t as your profile wasn’t activated...

That sucks so I lost all those saves about 1.5gb worth. Here's hoping someone will develop a work around or maybe a cfw to help with this problem. For now I'll just hang on to them and hope

Attempts have been made to merge activated files with non to switch a profile into “oh yeah I have been activated” mode, but it doesn’t work.

Maybe another approach will come to light and someone else will have a go at it.
