[Devlog] PKHeX-NX Update — Manual Legal Move Picker + v0.9.3 Polish

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a passion project for a few months and wanted to share a sneak peek and get early feedback before the first public release.

What is it?
PKHeX-NX is a 100% native Nintendo Switch homebrew app that edits Pokémon Scarlet & Violet save files directly on the console. No PC, no pulling the SD card, no dumping tools. It's a from-scratch C++ port of the core concepts behind the legendary PKHeX (not affiliated with the PKHeX team).

⚠️ CRITICAL: LAUNCH VIA TITLE OVERRIDE
You MUST launch PKHeX-NX via Title Override (hold the [R] button while launching Pokémon Scarlet or Violet from the home menu).
Do NOT launch this app from the Album / Applet Mode, or it will crash/fail to mount your save files due to memory restrictions.

What already works (v0.9.3):

Full save crypto: SHA256 footer verification, xorpad decryption, SCBlock/SCXorShift32 parsing
Box viewer (32×30 grid) with inject / clone / delete / export to .pk9
Stat & trait editor: IVs, EVs, Natures, Tera Types, Force Shiny — with automatic checksum healing
Trainer edits: Name, TID/SID, Money
Legality-aware generator:
Real abilities (Ability 1 / 2 / Hidden)
Manual legal move picker (hand-pick the 4 equipped moves from the species' real learnset)
Level-accurate moves from each species' real level-up learnset, with correct max PP
Growth-correct EXP across all 6 experience curves
Egg generation (valid egg flag, hatch cycles, level-1 moveset)
26-ball picker with correct in-game ball IDs
Scarlet + Violet support with a boot-time game selector
Safety net: byte-verified SD backup before every write, dual-file commit, one-button rollback
Everything is hardware-validated with photographic proof — generated mons render cleanly in-game with correct stats, abilities, and moves.

What's next (v1.0 / v1.1):

SDL2 graphical UI (current build is a text console)
More titles (Legends: Z-A, then Gen 8 codecs)
Bag editor, Living-Dex automator, and more
Why post now?
I'm pre-release and want this community's feedback on features, safety, and direction before I polish the UI and do a full launch. The repo is public if you'd like to follow along or review the code:
https://github.com/cbreezy210/PKHeX-NX

The boring-but-important part:
This is an educational project. Modifying save data always carries risk. The app has a robust backup system, but always keep your own manual backups. Use offline and at your own risk. Not affiliated with PKHeX, Nintendo, or The Pokémon Company.

Screenshots attached: homebrew icon, box viewer, Charmander stat screen, generated Charmander summary, and the new move picker UI.

Thanks for reading — feedback welcome!

Edit (Aug 28): Just shipped the Manual Legal Move Picker (M11) and updated the repo! See my reply below for details and screenshots.

please keep working on this!
Thanks so much, that means a lot! 🙂 The manual legal move picker just landed (v0.9.3), and the next big milestone is the graphical UI. I'll keep the updates coming in this thread!

Great question! Short version: yes to most of those, in stages. 🙂

• Legends: Z-A — planned first, since it reuses the same PK9 structure as Scarlet/Violet (just different save block keys).
• Sword/Shield and BDSP — next on the roadmap after Z-A (PK8 and PB8 codec ports).
• Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee — those saves use a different Pokémon format entirely, so that one's a bigger port. It's not on the roadmap yet, but I'd love to look into it once the Gen 8/9 core is solid. No promises!

I'm hardware-validating every port on-console before calling it done, so it'll be a gradual rollout. Thanks for the interest! 🙂

[Devlog] PKHeX-NX Update — Manual Legal Move Picker + v0.9.3 Polish

Hey everyone,

Quick progress update on PKHeX-NX (the native Switch Pokémon SV save editor). Thanks for all the feedback and clones on the initial sneak peek!

**What's new since the last post:**

🎯 **Manual Legal Move Picker (M11)**
Previously, the generator auto-assigned the last 4 level-appropriate moves. Now, you can hand-pick them.
• Press [Y] in the generator menu to open the Move Picker.
• Browse every legal move the species can learn at or below your chosen level (pulled directly from PKHeX's learnset data).
• Scroll through real move names (no more raw hex IDs!) and assign up to 4 custom slots.
• Perfect for building competitive sets or specific legacy movesets directly on the console.

🔧 **Housekeeping & Polish**
• Bumped the on-console title screen to **v0.9.3** (it was stuck on 0.1.0 from early testing).
• Added author credit to the NACP metadata.

**Screenshots attached:**
1. The new v0.9.3 title screen.
2. The Move Picker UI in action (showing real move names).
3. A generated Pikachu with a custom moveset.

**What's next:**
The core Gen 9 legality engine is now feature-complete. Next up is either tackling the Bag Editor / item tables, or starting the long journey toward the SDL2 graphical UI (v1.1.0) to replace this text console.

Repo is public if you want to follow along or review the C++:

As always: offline use only, keep your backups, and this is an educational project. Not affiliated with PKHeX or Nintendo.

Thanks for reading!
