Hello guys, its my first posting here please be gentle with me ;).
Anyways, i have just bought a switch not long ago and i have finally decided to hack it.
I ordered a 256gb sdxc and is waiting for it to arrive.
I am looking to install ReiNX on my switch following this guide: https://reinx.guide/
In the guide, it says to update my switch and gain exfat support. But, i really don't want to because i am on firmware 3.0.2 now, which may have a possible coldboot option in the future.

So, this is what i plan to do after receiving my sd card and jig.

1. Make a back of my switch using this guide: https://gbatemp.net/threads/backup-...-your-biskeys-tseckeys-keys-txt-guide.513386/
2. Add exfat support with this guide: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-install-the-exfat-driver-without-updating-2-x.505176/
Question here: should i use method 1 or method 2?
3. Install ReiNX with this guide: https://reinx.guide/gettingstarted

Am i on the right track?

P/S: is there anygood for me to update to 5.1.0 using choi? or can i just play .nsp on 3.0.2 ?
PP/S: I just found out the ReiNX toolkit has the option for me to backup my nand as well. Should i use Hekate or ReiNX to back up?

use choidujournx for exfat udapte

Looking at the guide, how do I extract the update partition? I am on ofw 3.0.2. And I downloaded xenoblade chronicles 2.nsp

How do I also make sure that there is exfat update in the partition?

Also how I tried booting into reinx to load the choi.nro but screens stays black after flashing. Im guessing it's because my current sdxc is exfat and my switch do not have the exfat support right now.

Like Kubas said use choidujournx for exfat.
It will update the firmware and also include exfat support.
For now format your card to fat32 then update.
After update completes format card back to Exfat and transfer .nsp files. Done..

Xbins or google to find firmware versions

I literally updated from 1.0 from all the information given on these forums. I did not even need to ask a question. Its all here just search

I found a 3.0.2 zip so hopefully that will work

2. Add exfat support with this guide

As said above, use ChoiDujourNX, it solves all your problems:
  • 1-click installation of exFAT update, and 5.1.0 firmware update, while ALSO preserving your fuses by enabling AutoRCM (so you can downgrade back to 3.0.2 if/when an exploit comes out).
Meanwhile, you also get the benefits of 5.1.0 (i.e. playing games that require it, like Octopath Traveler)

No need to keep yourself pinned down in 3.0.2 when ChoiNX can help you preserve your fuses with a 1-click solution (and you can downgrade just by restoring your NAND backup)

Steps 1 and 3 are ok, just also keep in mind to have/keep nogc enabled, since you are also on cart FW v1.

Thanks for the info. If I have the nogc enabled I can't play the game cart I have right.

Yes, but if you boot EVEN ONCE in 5.1.0 without nogc, your cartridge port will never again work in 3.0.2 if/when you downgrade (well... never say never, but currently, there is no way to make it work once it updates).

What I did myself was dump my cartridges to XCI (using the homebrew WAINCartDumperNX) and play them from the SD card (since I have SX OS, and I had a 4.1.0 base FW Switch so I did not need nogc).

Maybe you can do something similar (dump your cart using WAIN, then convert it to NSP using 4NXCI, so that you can install it in ReiNX).

Thanks for reply. I've decided to stay on 3.0.2 and just install the exfat support and managed to get a few .nsp installed through tinfoil.
Do you know where does the installed .nsp goes? i chose SD card during installation. Does this mean that when my larger sd card arrives, i can just move everything over and insert new sdcard into my switch and it will work?
