Essentially this thread is how to modify your .gba file to apply cheats directly to it, then you can eventually convert that .gba into a .cia file to inject into the 3ds. (at least thats what i did), and personally hacking the BN series I can tell you after 4 they have some heavy anti-cheat measures in game, there's some things you can't hack or it will corrupt your progress towards end game, trust me i've tried and failed... going past 3 there's some things you can't chat, like the amount of zenni/bug frags and among other things, honestly its easier just to play it on a emulator, (on pc or the 3ds) then apply the cheats through that, I no longer have the list of cheats i used for all the BN series, but you can test it with a emulator and see what happens to your save file before you decide to convert it into a cia. (i've had instances of all my chips/money/bugfrags and even the save itself corrupt/vanish)
oh I see.. maybe ill use an emulator instead. thanks!

cannot find the gbavc.sav in the sysnand virtual. help pls. i see the .bin file he mentions but the .sav isnt here. i do got the game backupped via jksv though. lol.

the dat.bin is the .sav file, just import the bin file as a battery file in your emulator, certain games like pokemon need to be trimmed/extended when moving between emulator and vc

You'll probably want to update from JKSV to Checkpoint. As for the rest, follow the instructions carefully. As it says, open the game you want to copy your save from. Then reboot into GM9 with Luma's chainloader (power off while in-game, hold Start while turning the system on). Use GM9 to navigate to SYSNAND VIRTUAL (S: Drive) and in there should be your save file (gbavc.sav) as mentioned. Copy it to a new folder on your SD card (0: Drive). Wash, rinse and repeat for every game you want to back your saves up from.

It's also important to note here that the .BIN files Checkpoint and JKSV dump are completely different from GBA saves. AFAIK, Checkpoint/JKSV isn't compatible with GBA titles on the 3DS family. In other words, unless there's something funky going on with your game, you're looking for a .SAV file, not a .BIN.

JKSV has issues with some games, at least in my experience. It's not worth keeping two programs around that do the same thing on the 3DS, especially if one doesn't always work. But, that's just me.

idk what that means dood. lol. battery file? i am pretty new to this still.

They mean save file, older games used to need working batteries to store their saves (pokemon gen 3+ doesn't though... it just used a battery for the clock)
ooooooh okay. ty. that is mighty old info. least it feels it. lol.

this is not working. no .sav file shows. just the agbsave.bin that the op says is there. it is not showing anything about anything to do about a .sav in here just a bunch of .bin files >>Then reboot into GM9 with Luma's chainloader (power off while in-game, hold Start while turning the system on) <<

What game are you trying to get your save from?

Wait... Are you using the GBA Breath of Fire games, or the SNES ones? 1 and 2 both got GBA ports eventually.
eventually?? it's the breath of fire that came from the eshop. couldn't play it on my O3ds as it was meant for new nintendo with that swivelly thing on it. anymew i digress....this virtual game shows what looks like a snes. it's the old nintendo system from my childhood. lol.

Welp, there's your problem, Breath of Fire 1 and 2 on the official VC use the SNES ROMs, not the GBA versions. JKSV/Checkpoint is what you need, look for that .DAT file. In the future, please be careful where you post, this thread deals with GBA on the 3DS, not the SNES VC games.

and how the heck would anyone get a gba game to do anything on a 3ds?? makes no sense.

If you backed it up with JKSV, you have the save backed up, no worries. And dude, what do you think this thread IS? It says GBA right in the thread title... You can totally run GBA on 3DS.

ok here is another problem i am having to just set it here for someone see if they know what the problem is. i added in codes turned into cia and installed but it didnt load. said there was a problem. would i need to re separate the coding here as in a space between each line or is it something else i am doing wrong? makes no sense to me here
