I am on 5.1.0, SX OS 1.6 with an SX Pro. Everything works as it should, but I get the prompt "A new update is available" at every game launch. I can just click it away and start playing, but I am wondering why this message appears. Surely on a console that was never online the game wouldn't know if there was an update waiting?

I swear Nintendo plants timebomb notifications in the firmware, hiding a pre-dated update nag inside it. They do it with the 3DS too, my offline 3DS let me know there was an update ready... but HOW WOULD IT KNOW??? It's been offline!!!!!

Well fanboys do give off a certain toxic aura and that toxic aura starts connecting to each other and because of that you have a huge network all over the planet connecting. Nintendo knows this and starts sending messages through that all and they're up on their big scary castle on top of the hill laughing and laughing and saying '' We're gonna get you, we're gonna get you''. The one thing you can do to save your switch from the toxic Nintendo aura network is to make a tinfoil hat for the switch, it will block out that network so that Nintendo can't read your switch and knows you still need that update.

I'm fairly certain the nag is for a game update, and the higher FW contains a list of each title that has an update available regardless of online connectivity.

A later released game for example does not prompt for an update, even when one is available, due to it not being contained in the list at the time the FW was released.

Just grab the update nsp from somewhere and install it and it's done.

Pretty sure your firmware knows what updates exist at the time of it's creation

That's what I think, but it would be quite the bloat to add all that info into the firmware for 1000 games. So maybe just a standard prompt for every game built for a lower firmware?

It already happened to me, and I figured out how to reproduce it (but not why it happens)
I selected a game through SX OS menu, and then I inserted a real game cartridge, and then this message started to appears. I just shutdown and restarted my switch (with SX OS and everything) and it just stops to happen, till I did the manipulation again. So I don't know why this is happening, but I'm pretty sure that it's just a bug from SX OS, or maybe from Horizon...

Are we sure that carts dont have this updated list packaged when released? That would allow them to incrementally update the list, and it would be quite small for 1000 games

it would be quite the bloat to add all that info into the firmware for 1000 games.

I know 2 people before me have already countered this, but I'd like to provide a concrete example.
I have CDNSP Bob GUI v4.1, and it has a file containing EXACTLY this info, formatted as
Code:
{
titleid : latest update version number
titleid : latest update version number
titleid : latest update version number
...
}

The file is <CDNSP_folder>/Config/Version_info.json
It's only 37 kB, and it has 1046 unique titleids (game titles).

In comparison, this screenshot below of the first few lines of that file, is 45 kB.

    i dont know why tv manufactures put the hdmi ports in dumb locations so the cables have to stick out, and then down, putting strain on the ports. Instead of having the ports along the bottom edge of the tv facing downwards.
