Hey guys,
I just installed some NSPs with tinfoil for the first time on one of my switches. Now i have the strange behaviour that Games that i installed to my NAND are starting just fine, but whenever i start one of the Games that i installed to the SD Card the game freezes right at after launching them. I mean that black screen with the Nintendo Logo on the upper left corner and the Switch logo that is animated in the bottom right corner.

How can i fix that? The sd Card is a SanDisc sdhx 64GB i bought it at one of the biggest local electronic shops in my country so im pretty sure its a legit card and nothing faked.
Ive been trying to sue the search function but somehow i didnt find anyone with a similiar problem which i find pretty odd!

UPDATE: Some Games keep freezing at launch even if installed to the NAND. Which means the SD card is not at fault here.
For more information look at my second post in this Thread.

It could be worth testing the card with h2testw anyway, you never know. It does sound like a bad SD card.

So i managed to to exclude the SD card from the list of suspects.
I tried to uninstall the games that kept freezing onthe SD and installed them to the NAND and they still keep freezing at the start.
Now I really have no clue at all anymore what could cause this as it seems very random which games work and which ones dont.

For example this Games here work from the NAND as well as from the SD i just tested it both ways: Celeste, 1-2 Switch, Hollow Knight, Super Mario tennis.

And this games keep freezing at starting them: Mario Kart 8 DX, Super Mario oddysei, ARMS and Octopath Traveller.

i have absolutely no idea what could be causing this

Try different dumps, they could be corrupted.

If you're using ReiNX what someone told me to do on Switch Noob Paradise thread was to delete "fs_mitm.kip" from sdcard/ReiNX/sysmodules. It's seems to have worked for me.

Yes i am using ReiNX
I tried this and Pokken did start to work after deleting this file.
But it still freezes with the other games.

Because of this i tried to load the games with RajNX to see if there might be some difference.
With RajNX now i have a different behaviour. The game does not freeze but an error shows up saying "the software was closed because an error occured"
and it gets me back to the horizon main menu.

My next step is to redownload these games that do not work to check if they are maybe corrupted in some way.
I will keep you guys updated and i am thankful for more helpful advices!

So one thing that happened to me was the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 started showing a corrupted data error and reinstalling it with the same nsp solved the problem. Maybe as others said you're using a bad dump or something went wrong while installing. Reinstall one of the games and see if it works.

I wish i could help you, but i have no idea what i could be. I can say i'm on FW 5.1.0 and i'm using a 128gb sd formatted on exFat. I put my nsps on sdcard/tinfoil/nsp and it works great.

No worries man, you helped already a ton im really grateful!

I've pretty much narrowed the issue down to being a fault of the switch console itself.
I buyed this switch second hand from someone who told me that the card reader was defective as it would not play games from the cardridge but digital games were fine.
I bought it because i was only going to use it for nsp anyway and tought i dont need a a working card reader anyway.

So now after having this issues i finally tought why not see what the issue with the actual card reader looks like. And what did i see, if i put xenoblade 2 or fifa 18 in as a cardridge the system showcases the game icon on it and i can launch it, just when launching that error message appears. So its the same behaviour as with these specific nsp files!

What is really confusing is that after trying to launch xenoblade and fifa 3-4 times it actually starts the game and it works without problems from there on.

Now im pretty sure it has something to do with the switch itself, im only not sure if there is a software defect on this switch or if some kind of hardware is defect.
I mean we can exclude the card reader being defective as the problem occurs with nsp games which come from the sd card.
I also dont understand why this behaviour only shows up for certain games and other games work without any trouble at all.

But hey its pretty interesting to troubleshoot this stuff atleast lol

Edit: @Mods maybe i should open a new thread in a different section as the problem seems not to be cfw/backup loader related?

I never used SX OS but maybe you can try that and see if it works with xci backups. And also if you have another sd card i think it's worth it to try load some backups from it. Your problem is pretty strange indeed.

What firmware are you running? If you are on low firm like 4.1.0 and try to run games, game updates, or DLC using 5.0.0+ master key, it will freeze and/or error out on you.
