Thanks guys for your fast and precise answer, you're very helpful as always

Yeah it sounds like a pain to do the backup and restore every time, I think I will pass until there is a better and safer solution...

One thing I wondered but couldn't find the answer anywhere, when you restore a backup does your official game saves get overwritten?
For instance if I forgot to reboot in normal mode and I play a game offline before restoring the backup.
Kind of off topic but is there even anything good to play online on the switch? ( I’m not into splattoon and smash) and overall online experience on switch is so bad compared to PC and PS4... I’ve been contemplating recently of just giving up online and using my switch as offline backup play and emulAtion

Mario Odyssee has the Balloon thing, other fighters exist such as Blazblue CTB and DBFZ. Pokemon Let's Go is sure to have online play, as well as the legit gen 8 whenever it becomes a thing.

There aren't much good games to play online, but if you are like me and want to keep the games and dlc up to date, and buy nindies, getting banned is pretty bad :P
You can buy download codes for Switch games if you want to do the whole giving money thing for games

Updates wise every other console and device has had a nice sharing scene for updates before where such things were relevant. Don't see why this would be any different.

I agree with an earlier post that Lakka is your best bet for "safe" emulator play.

Just to put this out there, I've used SX OS since day one for exactly what you want, emulators and homebrew. I don't have any pirated Switch games, and haven't hacked Switch games or tried to cheat online. Still not banned, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say I won't be in the future either.
