Confirm my worst fears for me (I think I know what your going to say though) bought a slim which I thought I could do something with. Got it home................Only to do the version checker and realise that my slim is only downgradeable to 3.66 (which I guess isn't good)?

I gonna what I copied on another forum word for word but I believe now I have a hell of a lot more options open to me

Sorry took a long time to update. I've finally got my hands on the daddy I need (it's a FAT PS3) not BC with PS2 games. Now I do have a super slim too with a 500GB hard disk in that. Is it a good idea I remove the hard disk from that place it in the FAT one? (give me more oomph) the latest FW on the fat is 4.81 so no idea if I should update to 4.82

Doesn't matter where the HDD is from.

It will be formatted anyway when put in another Device. Have a look what your phat is on Firmware Wise and download the same FW via the net.

Put the new HDD in the Device and it will ask you to format and ask you for the FW. Stick with the Firmware in the right USB port and off you go.

Stick has to be in FAT32 and the right Folder Structure is:

PS3/UPDATE/ps3updat.pup

Have fun.

I am gonna come back to this in a couple of days. I was having a issue with the super slim hard disk (gave up in the end) eventually i've decided to purchase a 1TB Hard drive (PS3 compatiable) I will come back to this though when I have the new hard disk installed and fitted on the FAT PS3 as I not even got the foggiest clue what the best CFW is out there

You said reply when I was sorted? ;) I've got the ITB hard drive fitted and installed (828GB of 931 free) quite a load to play with ;) Now I am familiar with the HAN/RAP file method but I do understand now I have the fat PS3 that opens me up to the delights of CFW'S I also know I had to make a dummy account for HAN so no idea if that applies to CFW

Hey up.

All right. First you want to make sure you got your Console on 4.82. Then You got to use the well known exploit (I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link to another board)
And make a Dump of your NAND/NOR (I highly recommend this).

Then when you checked your Dump with Swizzys Dump Checker you got to use the Exploit again and Patch the System.

When it's patched you simply shut down and install your CFW. I would recommend Rebug 4.82

Then Multiman and off you go [emoji6]

There is a website which explains the process in total but like I said I don't know if I'm allowed to post them links here? (MOD?)

Wrote you an PM [emoji6]

You should definitely make sure you got a good Dump! Essential in case something goes wrong even later when already installed the CFW. You can check the Type of Flash with checking the Serial (the CECxxx Part) on Google and simply type Downgrade being this.
This should tell you if it's NAND or Nor..

Keep on you'll get this sorted [emoji6]

Not sure if the fact that it's dumping a 239MB file is right lol (I'll get there) I know the time is right on the PS3 and it's not signed into any sort of PSN

That is definitiv NAND then and the size is right.

Honestly nowadays I skip the checking most of the time as the process is very solid.

You can skip the check if you want but I would definitely keep the backup.

If you are brave enough proceed with the next step and patch the NAND. Wait till success message pops up and install the Rebug CFW.

You should be done in half an hour.

Bit more specific please [emoji6]

What isn't working?

The exploit?

You changed the files to the patch files?
Hex is on the stick as well?
Far Right USB port?

Hosted locally or over Internet?

I prefer locally as the success rate is much higher.

Cache cleared, blank start page?

It's nearly 23 o clock here I need to go to bed soon. So if I'm not responding I will definitely be back tomorrow.

I try to keep up another half an hour [emoji6][emoji23]

Right OK so i've tried flashing with the NAND 239MB method. That worked but reading the file with the PS3dumpchecker said it failed with wrong size as I posted above. I've tried the alternative 16MB NOR method and that just failing non stop (not even letting me dump the 16MB file on to the USB) regardless of what slot it goes into

You don't need to flash anything.
Keep the USB Stick empty with just the hex on it.

Open the website and choose patch NAND.

The exploit might take a lot of trys when you do it over Inet.

Can be 2 or can be 100.

Good way is clean the browser cache, history and set up a blank homepage.
