Loading .NSP Backup Files with ReiNX

This guide assumes you have access to RCM, if you do not, use a compatible method. Some of those compatible methods can be found here.
This guide will transform your stock switch to play "backups" of switch games
1.) Installing ReiNX

  • Download the latest stable ReiNX Release (Found here) (Extract this on to the root of your SD)
  • Make a new folder in the /ReiNX/ directory on your SD named 'titles'
  • Download hbmenu.nro (place this on the root of your SD)
  • Download this .zip file and extract it to /ReiNX/titles/
  • Download the latest stable release of Tinfoil(Found here)
  • Create a new folder on the SD's root named 'switch'
  • Place tinfoil.nro (found in the tinfoil zip) in the /switch/ directory
  • Make a new folder on the root of the SD named 'tinfoil' and inside this folder create another folder named 'nsp'
*From now on any NSP warez or homebrew you download should be placed in /tinfoil/nsp on the SD card.

2.) Booting into ReiNX
*Skip this step if you are familiar with booting into CFW
  • Use your method of choice to enter RCM
  • Push ReiNX.bin from the ReiNX.zip we downloaded earlier to your switch. (If you do not know what app to use to do this i reccomend TegraRCMGUI for Windows users.)
3.) Installing Games
  • Open the homebrew launcher by opening the Nintendo Switch Album
  • Open tinfoil
  • Choose Title Management>Install NSP>(Choose the NSP you would like to install)
Profit! Enjoy your "legally obtained backups" ;)

FAQ
:

- Can I delete .NSP files from my SD after they have been installed via tinfoil?
Yes you can.

- Will I get banned for going online?
Yes, you will most likely be banned from playing online with your switch. This in fact does not block updates though, and you can still access the eShop. (I strongly suggest you keep your switch in Airplane mode and de-link your NNID if you plan on using CFW to install a bunch of NSPs.)

- Can I install updates or DLC with this tool?
Not with tinfoil currently, you have to install devmenu to install DLCs and game updates. See here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/quick-g...ates-dlc-with-devmenu-no-sx-os-needed.512337/

- Can I convert .XCI to .NSP?
Yes. Use this.

- Do i have to use the album to launch into the homebrew launcher?
No. You can install this via tinfoil and launch the homebrew launcher as if it is an app if that pleases you.

- I wish i could backup my saves so that i don't lose them...
Download checkpoint.nro and use it to backup your saves/import saves from another switch.

- Can i install any homebrew to my main menu with this?
Pretty much. Check this out.

- How do i update ReiNX?
You can update it manually by downloading the latest release and extracting it to the root of your SD card, or use this updater homebrew application. (Recommended you use that homebrew to decrease hassle every time you want to update.)

So, question for you guys.

I've got a 1.0 switch, and tried the tutorial for ReiNX. Tried installing 1-2switch which is a launchgame.
I get to 100% and then nothing happens. It just stays there, but the game is nowhere to be found. Also tried Aftermath with the same result.

From what I understand, 1.0 is not fully supported when it comes to sig-patches? Pretty new to switch hacking and not sure I understand everything yet.

If it won't work, what can/should I do with a 1.0 switch? Install Fakenews via RCM and wait for a coldboot cfw later down the road?

Wait so, that's a converter, but it says i need to use devmenu, but if i use the CDNSP can i install it throught ROMMenu? or do i need to use devmenu?

In the ReiNX disscusion thread i had made a comment on installing .NSP files with ReiNX and TinFoil that seemed to help a lot of people. I thought that i would compile more info into a dedicated post so that it was not lost in the swarm of the discussion.

Important: .XCI files are not supported with any CFW other than SX OS, nor is there a current way to convert a .XCI to a .NSP file. This may change soon.

In order to install backups using ReiNX you must do the following:
  • Download https://www.dropbox.com/s/pm39mreyru8nchk/ReiNX.zip?dl=0
  • Extract contents of 'ReiNX' to root of SD
  • Place NSPs in /tinfoil/nsp
  • Launch ReiNX with TegraRCMSmash or other application of choice
  • Open HBL by going to 'Album' On home screen
  • Open tinfoil
  • Install NSP with tinfoil
  • Enjoy!

Again, no. Anyone, or anything that tells you this is possible is currently incorrect.
Does that ReiNX that you've linked (Dropbox) have the sig patches so any NSP would install and launch with it?

So after some tests, Reinx from darth stash doesn't need devmenu, just use the rommenu that comes with it. use CDNSP to get the .nsp files! google for both these things (for the newbie people like me there is a bob version of CDNSP with GUI). Just put the .nsp files in the root of the SD card, after that launch reinx and use the rommenu to install it. really easy xD

Dont use 1.0 with NSPs. I have it on good authority that 2.X is the minimum you'll need for NSP as the 1.0 FW lacks the ability for non physical games (i.e. NSPs)

On Tinfoil, when I select install ( either NAND or SD ) my screen goes blank and i need to restart my switch.
Am I missing something at this point ??

I just Downloaded the latest files...

Switch is on 4.0.1 ( Fat32 SD card)

I’m having the same issue and I have not found any solution to this.

I’m using la latest version of tinfoil and ReiNX on 4.1.0

Please help us.

Edit: I solve this by using RajNX instead ReiNX and it worked flawlessly.

This seems to only work on 5.0 FWs please update

Hi, big thanks for this!!!

Just a question, will this sigpatched version of ReiNX be updated to the last release? :)

Try removing fs_mitm.kip, or update to newest sd stash. I think it was removed altogether

Why is the guide still saying you can't install DLC with Tinfoil, that's working fine now.

I don't see how or why layeredfs would or could make a difference. It should not be in any way whatsoever used during NSP installation... Are people just using it for scapegoating convenience?

Trying to install an NSP I backed up from my personal Cart, and converted using my keys.txt and system files using NSP Build Master. Everything works till I go to Tinfoil and choose install.

Installing 1/1
Failed to install NSP!
OpenFile:121: Failed to open file /. Error code: 0x00000202
Done!

I am totally stuck on what to do!!

Worked for me. Black screen when trying to install before deleting, worked fine after deleting. Don't know why... But it worked. Not scapegoating, just reporting findings.

hey am having a error code while installing a game tinfoil . i am getting error code failed to install NSP! OpenFileSystemWithId:103: Failed to open file system with ID error code 0x00234a02

1)make sure you have enough space on the SD card/Sys memory. Remember, you need twice as much free space as the game needs
2)Make sure the filename isn't too overly long

I shorted the name and i did have enough space to installed the game.I'll try to get the game from somewhere else and see if it still error code. thank.
