I made a nand backup on a 64GB ExFat with the switch straight out of the box on 4.1. The Switch does not have ExFat out of the box on 4.1 BUT Hakate does and that is what makes the backup, you are not running in Horizon at that point, so it goes something like this.

-RCM
-inject payload
-make backups in Hakate
-preserve your backups on PC, Cloud, Safe Deposit Box, Grandma’s House.
-format your SD as fat32, copy starter pack files back on, plus 5.1 update files
-rcm, inject, launch CFW, launch HB menu
-run ChoiDujourNX, update to 5.1 with ExFat support, autoRCM automatically enabled.
-shut down, format sd card as ExFat on PC, copy starter pack files back on SD
-insert SD card, rcm, inject payload, launch CFW
-start installing NSPs with Tinfoil
-???
-Profit
This is great. Thank you I will try. I would consider a sucess not bricking the console in the first 3 steps LOL

BTW I cant even enter RCM. Tried with the tiny tinfoil thing to no avail . I ordered a jig on aliexpress but its still coming.

Was the foil placed correctly? Make sure it's hugging the far right of the Joycon when you slide it in and that it doesn't move of course
Did you press both buttons at the same time? If so, try holding the volume button down and just tapping the power button
Does your PC make a sound when you connect a USB device to it? That is the fastest way to know if you entered RCM successfully
I'm asking all of these questions because i too use the foil method and taking the steps i mentioned guarantees entering RCM successfully 100% of the times

I waited for a jig as well. I really don’t want to dive into the whole tinfoil debate, but I opted out primarily because my eyes are old and even with 3x readers I just can see those tiny pins well enough and I dont have a good magnifying glass. If my jig didn’t arrive when it did I was going to use a length of 18-20 gauge solid wire on hand on pin 10 grounded to that middle rail screw since I was only going to need to do it a few times until I had autoRCM set up. Probably 24 gauge would be ideal.

Thinking over that paraphrased mini-guide I wrote I did leave out that when I put the Tinfoil nro in the Switch folder i had to run Tinfoil once for it to setup the folder structure to put the nsp files in. There may be some instructions on pre-setting those up in the Tinfoil thread to save a shutdown and ejecting the SD card once.

Switch works, but it could been damaged anyway?
I would just wait for the jig or get someone with better vision/hand-eye coordination to do it for you.

Funny how this guy ended up touching pin4 with a paper clip and not the tinfoil, so much for the "tinfoil is the devil!" theory.

Paperclip sucks it's a hard metal that can easily screw the small thin delicated pins...

If you could open the joy-con you could touch the pin 10+9 with like a tweezers very easily just for testing, but don't make a permanent short on them as the latest joy-con FW detects it.

When I hack my Switch I will actually solder a button in my joy-con from pin 10+1...

Does the Joycon work still? I wouldn't try using a paperclip again anyway
When I put it in the rail it works, its not charging but I guess is because in handheld the joycon dont charge unless low battery, rught? is more than 60% or so

If you connect the power supply, the joy-cons must charge, else they only charge with the console battery if the console has above a certain % which I can't remember how much...

Im just in handhelmd mode. It says then right joycon is conected.

Well nothing APPEARS to be wrong from what you're saying. You're incredibly lucky i suppose. I wouldn't use a paperclip again though

That's already good as some stop detecting it and worked only wirelessly...

But even handheld when you connect the power supply to the Switch with the joy-cons attached they must start charging.

I never even tried the dock, I didnt even took it out of the box, I only used my Switch portable too, and I also never remove the joy-cons from the console, but they charge right away when I connect the console to the provided AC to USB-C power supply...

Soa ccording to this, I should update to 5.1 BEFORE getting into installing NSP /playing XCIs right?

Well first Please wait for your Jig to arrive,as you seem to be having issues with the paperclip method,
and i don't recommend you use tinfoil if you cant use a paperclip.
But i too wont get into that debate of tinfoil vs paperclip or other method as some girls on here cry:cry:.
Anyway that said The very first thing you should do and i advise
Is to make a full backup, and because you have not Even loaded or used anything other then stock you can make a virgin nand backup which is great..
I have attached below a guide to get you backed up, again do this before you even uses sx Pro or try to cfw/home brew Please. Backup should be the first thing you do before anything besides switching on the unit and putting it into rcm of course.
Here's the backup guide any questions please ask in the thread > Click Here
Have a good day
