PlayStation systems reach 500 million sales, limited PS4 console announced to celebrate

ECsxHRB.png

Since the launch of the original PlayStation in 1995, it, and its successors have been popular worldwide. To this day, the PlayStation 2 sold over 155 million units, and has the highest sales number compared to any game console ever. With the PlayStation 4 on track to eclipse the total amount of sales that the PlayStation 3 made through its lifetime, it was hardly a surprise when Sony revealed that over 500 million PlayStation branded systems have been sold. To celebrate this achievement, Sony will be releasing a very limited edition PS4 Pro console. Only 50,000 of these consoles will be created, and they'll be selling for $499.99. The special console comes in a dark blue color, with a translucent see-through casing, a PlayStation Camera, a headset, and a special controller. You can also opt to buy the controller alone for $64.99. Both will go on sale for a short amount of time on August 24th.

I have my ps4 since launch day but still see no good reason to upgrade to a pro since I don't own a 4k tv and unlike launch ps3 and x360, the ps4 works as good as it did the first day with no issues at all.

I can understand that, what I don't understand is people buying standard ps4's now.

There are improvements even on 1080p, but the chance of buying a 4k tv in the future is much higher than me buying a second ps4.

I have to imagine that Sony as a whole would be about dead or dying right now were it not for the Playstation. Seriously all their other divisions have gone to shit: their movies, phones, computers, tvs, can't think of the last Sony product I bought that wasn't related to the Playstation.

Beyond that though, that is a sexy looking system and would love to have it, not about to pay $500 for a new system at the moment though.

I just spent my hoard on other gadgetry (Sony WM1A walkman and Z1R headphones), so I'm fortunately immune to this atm. Because I'd probably buy it, and I'm not even a Playstation person.

ps4 pro is costly, almost 40% more than a slim model (at least where I live), so is no one guess why the slim sells so well compared to the pro.
and to be fair the phat ps4 is better than the slim one if you are not gonna use wifi (and you shouldn't, ethernet is just plain better), phat ps4 doesn't have 5ghz wifi but it has optical audio out which the slim lacks.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
