I'm still trying to figure out how an open-source license is, somehow, more important than Nintendo's licenses. I'm pretty sure there must be a clause somewhere in the Switch's legal mumbo-jumbo that says something like "You can't modify our software to use it in ways we didn't intend!". I don't see anyone complaining when Nintendo's software protection is defeated by homebrew coders...

But, hey. Gotta protect the sanctity of Atmosphere from the evil Team Xecuter.

Beaking ToS varies from country to country however all in all it just voids the warranty but sometimes could lead to legal issues if they wanted to just waste time

I don’t trust him.
Give me some better proofs
Do it yourself then. If you have sx os 1.2 still floating around your computer, use the unpacker for 1.2, python, and so on. Then go to the source code of atmosphere and compare it yourself. You might just find the easter egg line. Oh and btw, 1.3 won't do, as they did remove the easter egg, then again it isn't that hard to use a hex editor and see similarities within the code if your stuck with 1.3

So according to:

https://github.com/switchbrew/nx-hbloader/tree/master/source

https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/tree/master/stratosphere/loader/source

https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/tree/master/stratosphere/fs_mitm/source

https://github.com/CTCaer/hekate/commit/d9dba2b1825c4e99c94c7587bd9230cc1eccf906

nx-hbloader: 383
atm-loader: 5.714
atm-fs-mitm: 2.456
hkt-bdf: 26

"sx os" boot menu: 300
xci to s:fs: 500
DRM: 200

That makes a total of:

8.579 Lines of stolen code
1.000 Lines of written code

counting the amount of "stolen code" in lines and making up the amount of "written code".

time well spent, right?....

Uh, it likely wasn't all that hard, some programs allow you to see how many characters are in a line of text (probably not a text program. But just a program in general) . So really, it's just doing easy math.

Atmosphere is built from the ground-up and does not use code from Horizon. They can look at its source code and use it as a reference point, but that's as far as they can go. Outside of that, Atmosphere is a CFW that can only be run on modified Switches meaning they are already out of Nintendo's control. If you are referring to the exploit that both teams are using to load their respective CFWs, well both parties are guilty of the same thing but that exploit is not Nintendo's fault and falls on Nvidia's shoulders.

It's not, people just need an excuse to hate, cuz they can't afford 20$. I personally wouldn't mind using SX OS for free, but if TX is smart enough to prevent their product from being cracked, then I'll pay. If they have the balls to go against Nintendo(and believe me Nintendo is hunting their asses, because they're the first ones to open the gates of piracy on Switch), then why should they give a fuck about a gpl license ?

Can't people see the irony in what they're saying ? They were asking for piracy and now they are whining about a gpl license? Like pirating games is fine, but God forbid you take a part of the gpl-lincsed code.

good job. you did good son. here take a cookie.

if you think a compiled binaries size is similar to actual code in plaintext you're wrong tho.
You're right. There's probably way less plaintext code lines. Wich means, more stolen code

The makers and users of open-source software like Atmosphere aren't necessarily pro-piracy; in fact, most of the contributors are vocally opposed to piracy. There's nothing hypocritical about calling out TX on their violations of Atmosphere's GPL.

TX has stolen open-source software in order to create a product used for stealing Nintendo's software.

Breaking the GPL license in this case is essentially stealing, breaking the Switch's license isn't. Nobody working on cracking the switch is claiming that they made the Switch. TX is essentially claiming that they are 100% behind the design of SX OS by not at least crediting anyone.

They can call TX out. 99% of the people on this forum are hypocrites in doing so.

There is a difference between an average user pirating and what TX is doing, namely if I pirate something, I don't make thousands of dollars by reselling it. TX isn't just violating the license privately (which I think is impossible with GPLv2 code), they are profiting off of it for personal gain. It'd be like me pirating BOTW, and then selling the pirated copies online.

Except it was not you who pirated, you stole free code from someone who did, and then you sold it

Awww people are so funny about the gpl thing, let it go, nearly nobody cares, mostly the people with sx os wont give a damn about the gpl, but if you want to take it that way, I hope that TX really copies everything that the open source community does, so we dont have the tx os vs atmosphere because tx os is inferior, now we will have tx os are stealers!!!! and we will see a lot of people cry but you wont be able to do anything about it, you could whine all day long, TX wont listen to your prayers, wont listen to your whining, their product work, and works very good, thats what people care, not gpl and whining
