XCI-Cutter tool (Windows)

main.png

XCI-Cutter

Features:

- cuts off (trims) unused sectors
- optionally cuts in pieces (splits)
- batch processing

This tool reads the XCI-Header to determine the full cartridge-size and the actually used space.

By default, the tool checks if the sectors after the used space/gamedata are really unused (filled with FF).
It refuses to cut, if it finds any data in that area (this check can be bypassed by using "Fast Mode").

The tool can be used to restore these FF-sectors and expand XCI-files back to the full cartridge size.

@ChronoX_ compiled a list with actual datasizes over at:

UPDATE 20.06.2018:
Trimmed and split games are now fully compatible with SX OS!

!!! Important Note: !!!
Dumps that were split with a version before v2.4.2,
have to be joined/uncut using that OLDER version.
And afterwards split again using the NEW version.

Yea, maybe it is just my firmware I'm not sure. Oddly enough I was able to get the trimmed puyo puyo tetris and retro city rampage to load no problem. But the other <4GB games won't load, this includes Splatoon 2, Arms, 1-2 Switch, Cave Story+, and The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+. All of these games worked previously with their full XCI. Maybe no one else is reporting this because they don't trim the games under 4GB? I know I didn't have any plans to trim those games, I just did so for experimental purposes. You definitely know more than me though, I'm just trying to provide any useful information I can.

I've tried Splatoon, Arms and 1-2 Switch. I can play them trimmed without problems.

Here is another version to try:

2GB parts:

It would be great if someone could try splitting and report. Thanks!

Sidenote: SX OS has problems with fragmentation. When some files get
deleted and replaced by other ones, there's a high chance that the new files get fragmented.
If that happens, the whole data should be backed up and recopied to a freshly formatted card.

try to remove all files from sd card format 32k and then split all games again 4gb parts and put again in sd card. i think is because of the fragmentation of the sd card. if i am right

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And rename all part to the name of the game like "Donkey Kong.xc0 Donkey Kong.xc1" like that outside of sd card.

Yes, that's possible i suspected frangmentation to be an issue some posts ago.

The filenames are no problem for me. They all end with "-cut"

Thanks! That's great!

But now we still need to figure out why some users can't use 4gb.

What firmware are you on?
I'll be off work in about 6 hours. I'll try a complete reformat of my card and see if the trimmed/cut games from 2.4.2 work. If that doesn't work I'll try retrimming with your new 2gb exe and report back.

Thanks for your help!

Make sure to copy the parts one by one in the right order (xc0 xc1 xc2 ...).
Takes a bit longer, but by that way it's guaranteed that the whole dump
occupies one coherent block in the filesystem.

Thanks! Please format your card beforehand, to make sure that no fragmentation occurs.
still no dice, tried with re-formatting and transferring each file separately, I think I will just bite the bullet and update from 4.1 to latest to get exfat :S

Thanks for the tip! It is working now that I uncut and untrim with your OLDER tool first then trim and split with 2.4.2. I also followed your step to copy in the right order and now I am running MK8!

Thanks for all your help and your sacrifice for time for this community!!

I just came to this thread to say exactly the same thing. Do not join in the newer tool! This obviously only applies to people who deleted the not split files
