Hi guys!
Please help me clear something up.
If your Switch gets banned while you purchased digital games on it what will happen if:
- You use this account (for the first time) to activate another Switch? Will that Switch get banned too?
- Deactivate (remove banned account from) a Switch and user another account on it? Will that get banned too?
And finally:
- Of what use is a banned Switch? Can it play card games, fetch (free) updates from Nintendo?

If you remove the banned account an then probably fully format the switch, you should get banned, but who knows.

Did you mean "you should get unbanned"?
I'd like to know this as well. Some have claimed being banned so I'm curious if they did this and how it turned out.

Switches aren't banned. Your account is. Wherever your account is, that switch is banned.

Banned switch can do everything except online play, friends and eshop.

Wut???

Also, once you are banned, you are banned no matter what you do.

It makes total sense (except the "you should get banned" part which I corrected already)

So you are telling me Nintendo Bans 3DS Consoles + Account but not Nintendo Switch Consoles?
I'm not sure about that. Why shouldn't Nintendo ban the ConsoleID of your Switch, too?

Where did you get that info from?
I'm pretty sure that they'll ban the whole console forever, like it has been with the 3DS.

This is extremely false. All consoles have a unique certificate needed to access most online services (ie eshop, online gaming, ...). Once this cert is banned there's no going back, even if you swap accounts. I'm unsure if Nintendo will ban all devices that share users with the originally detected console, though.

I think this is the big issue to clear up. It'll be extremely disappointing if Nintendo banned a family console because of a user linked (but not the main user) to that Switch.

Then that's unjust!
Why should the other console be affected if no trace of hacking detected?
What 'other console'? You asked if the whole Switch that multiple people use is banned if one profile hacks and others don't, and if they ban, of course that'll be the case.

They will of course not ban a new Switch only because you log in with your old account from a banned Switch. If you can log in, that is.

If your Switch gets banned you can't unlink any Nintendo Account currently active on it. As you can only do that through the eShop and if you try to call Nintendo they will notice the ban and refuse to deactivate it.

Actually see this scenario:
The father decides to hack his Switch but his account is also linked to his kids' Switch.
- What will happen if his Switch gets banned? I'm assuming the kids' will also as per your logic?

Regarding the new Switch: some Switch hacker on Twitter (Shiny...!?) claimed he got both his Switches banned although the other one had never been hacked before.

*snip*

That's not true. My old switch got banned (2124-4007), asked Nintendo support to unlink it and they did that. I can use my old nintendo account on the new switch.

What were you allowed to do while banned? Download game updates? dlc? firmware updates?

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
