I installed and launched Freeshop before I ever launched EShop, now Freeshop has no default music is there anyway to fix this?

  1. Delete the entire 3ds/freeshop folder
  2. If you're using the .3dsx version, reinstall it in a new 3ds/freeshop folder (skip this step if its CIA)
  3. visit Nintendo eShop and exit out (I think this copies BGM)
  4. QR scan code the new title key. This should reset freeshop.
  5. Under Music tab, set to Play eShop music. If no music plays then, go under Other tab, Update eShop music.
  6. (All else fail scenario) Resort to borrowing copies of boss_bgm1 and boss_bgm2 from a buddy. Needs to be placed in 3ds/freeShop/music/eshop directory.
Hi all. Am having an issue with Freeshop where my 3DS crashes when I press the Start button while in Freeshop, it spits out a black screen that says "an exception occurred", and then the 3DS shuts down. Any idea what's happening here?

I'm having this issue too with the latest v4.1.3 CIA from Evi repo; have not re-tested the early one hosted by Paul.

I found out that the crash will happen when you don't have boss_bgm1 and/or boss_bgm2. For some odd reason, the build on my 32 GB card will not retrieve those files at all. I have backups from my other cards to copy from, and they seem to have no problem re-extracting them when their freeshop folder is deleted.

Edit - Fixed the retrieval of bgm1 and bgm2 by renaming my Nintendo 3DS folder and rebuilding a new one. freeShop grabbed new bgm from fresh folder, and then I switched back to the original folder.

I said I guess it is, but I'm not sure.

I found a way to make this crash bug happen. This seems to be CIA specific.
  1. When you first launch freeShop, go under Settings and Music tab. Change it to Disable music if it was not that beforehand.
  2. Exit out of freeShop, go back to HOME Menu, and relaunch freeShop.
  3. Without ever changing the Disable music setting, press the (Start) button. You will get a dump similar to this (my freeShop is injected in eShop so the process name and title ID is different).

The crash will not happen if you do not start freeShop at the beginning with Disable music. It will also not happen if you change it that to anything else. Changing it back to Disable music will allow freeShop to go back to HOME Menu with (Start).

I'm not opening an issue at notabug.org because I don't feel like starting another account after settling with GitHub. I'm not going to verify if the bug appears in normal CIA version as I only use freeShop in injected form.

Oh nice you found fixes. You might've indirectly told me the cause of these bugs.

For the crashing when music is disabled I'd think it may be caused by freeShop trying to end the music (bgm) services while none are running. I'll be on exchange this week, maybe I can fix this while I'm there ^^

EDIT:
For the eShop music bgm files, there's an option to dump them in the settings on the last page, maybe this has some faulty code with it

Hello there,
I have recently installed freeshop on my 3ds. Whenever I try to install anything however, I get an error
"Failed to finalize content: 0xF90608022"
This is very annoying as I am trying to recover Pokémon Ultra Sun, which I don't want to re-buy.

hi, anyone have a link for the 3dsx version on the last update? my version always crashes.
https://gbatemp.net/download/community-freeshop.33782/ I just uploaded it

You don't need go rebuy if you use the same system and NNID

But I lost my original one after system transferring in order to for my friend to obtain CFW.
Do you know how to solve the error?

I don't think I explained what happened properly, that's my fault.

So it started a couple weeks ago. I gave my friend CFW for his birthday.
I used the System transfer method to do this and would reverse transfer it after 7 days.

The next day, I went out and bought myself a bigger SD card (128GB) and formatted it so it would work on my 3ds.

A week passed and I could reverse transfer my NNID back my 3ds, only that my friend had lost his.
Unfortunately, I had Pokémon Ultra Sun on that NNID, which I wasn't willing to repurchase.

So I installed Freeshop, in the hopes of getting some of my games back. The first problem I encountered was when freeshop refused to read my title keys. I realised I was using the old (not forked) version, and updated to the latest version, all my title keys were read and I started to download PKUS along with TLoZ:OOT.

End of story? Not really.
The next morning (it was an overnight download), I found that both downloads have given me an error code:
"Failed to finalize content 0xF90608022"
I tried googling the error with no avail, I got a similar error from googling it, saying it could be a connection problem. I didn't dispute that, I don't have the best internet. So I tried again, this time during the day.

It failed a 2nd time, again with the same error. So I decided to get creative.
Using the publicly title keys, I started to download games that I never really owned, to see if I would get the same error; and I did.
I tried with these games:
Pokémon Ultra Sun
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Azure Striker: Gunvolt
Azure Striker: Gunvolt 2
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Smash Bros.
Mario Kart 7.
Dragon Ball: Fusions
Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden
Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate mission X
Metroid: Samus Returns
Inazuma Eleven: Go Chronostones Wildfire

Out of that list, only Metroid: Samus Returns and Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden worked.

I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Any help will be appreciated.
TIA.

With so many games giving you the same error, couldn't it be a faulty SD card? Test with another SD card (if you have any, a 4GB will do).

Otherwise try running a test in your SD to make sure it's not faulty or fake. I used h2testw on my 128GB sandisk card, it can take some hours if you're using an usb adapter like me but it's very reliable.

Thanks for the reply. I actually did that already but forgot to put it in the post. The problem was my internet, anyways thanks for the help!

Hi guys, long time away from the scene

Is the r160 the latest cache avaible?

Yes.

There's another bug that could be related to this one.

If you start freeShop without bgm and try to queue titles for download with (X), you crash.

there has been a lot of new stuff added and yet the cache hasn't been updated since then, have people lost interest in freeshop or is it not really being maintained cache-wise anymore?

What do you mean "a lot has been added"? You mean there are new titlekeys on the website that aren't showing up in freeshop, or do you just mean there have been new releases for the official eshop and freeshop doesn't have them yet?

I mean titlekeys on the website that aren't showing up in freeshop, stuff like bloodstained curse of the moon, dillon's dead heat breakers, and so on
You can always download them manually from the CDN using the Title ID and Decrypted title key if you really want them. Otherwise AFAIK the cache only updates twice a week. Next update should be Wednesday, if they aren't there by then then someone may need to check the automated cache updates.

Or you can just grab the current .bin and replace it manually. Those are literally the only two new titles added since r160. Just checked.

You won't find those games on freeShop until someone legitimately purchase copies on Nintendo eShop and extract/share/upload their title keys to that title site.

Luckily, both of those games you're looking are available. Use FBI to QR scan downloading their tickets.
